Yes (though it was my idea ). Re the Park Rd houses, surely if we grease their hands with say £20k each as compensation we'd be fine?

Great idea dare say the residents will have a big say in any redevelopment! Wonder if there are any plans to purchase properties around SP and Park and Holmesdale roads a la Liverpool? although that has taken years, blighted the area and is still not resolved. Those 6 houses behind the main stand must be on the radar though.

I think SP wants to be a bit more ambitious than just ripping off the AW stand and whacking an extra tier on top.

Would be so much better to dig out all the space under the existing stand and erect a new structure above a vast exspanse of space for corporate faculties, lounges etc.

Billyd with the greatest respect what you are suggesting is somewhat short sighted IMO and just doesn't utilise all the potential room on that side.

PS where would you sit if the Main stand was rebuilt first?
I do appreciate the AW has the worst facilities in the ground and can see the argument for redoing that one first. But the way I read the article is that SP seems content with what's been spent on the Main Stand so far, when the facilities for the fans (rather than Directors Box) are really very poor. As I say, I may be speaking out of turn as I haven't been in the Stephenson Lounge for a year or so, but I've not heard from anyone that it's been done up in any way.

I went into the Players Lounge on Tuesday (Wright & Bright Bar) and was amazed at how plush the toilets are there and the seating around the food area. And the quantity of food and hot drinks available.

Technically, we're not supposed to use that bar as the Stephenson is allocated to us, but I do sneak down there at half time to get a hot drink.

As for where I'd sit, if the Main Stand wasn't available, I'd probably try and go in the AW, purely because I prefer a sideline view of the pitch rather than behind the goals

Whichever stand they do first, it will surely be a massive improvement on what we currently have.

I suspect we'll end up with something like Villa - 4 very different stands that don't quite fit together, but all giving good views, and ultimately something unique rather than the bland identikit grounds that seem to have all been built over the last 20 years

Yes, you're right. I've just got a thing about toilets and when I read they were going to be refurbished, I got quite excited about it. But ours haven't really had anything done to them, except a hole in the ceiling fixed

But, at the end of the day, Selhurst Park is unique and I quite like the querkyness of it really

One of the huge reasons I was so so happy after Wembley was knowing that finally this work could begin, I think the armchair football followeres who say things like "yeah you're just going back down" don't understand this side of things, just the little touches done to the ground this summer gave everyone (nearly) a little buzz, it was great spotting all the improvements. As a season ticket holder in the Arthur, I love the atmosphere but never leave where my seat is between KO and FT - would love to get food etc at HT but just too rammed.

I guess Rome wasn't built in a day and I do appreciate all the little things that have been done to the ground.

I'm just a bit grumpy today.

If you're reading this CPFC 2010, please do not build us a white elephant. We will not fill 40k, we will not even get close for your average top-flight games.

And when we are back in the championship, something that will happen at some point, it will be awful to see a less than half full stadium.

I wonder if we the fans get to see any of the four or five architects plans this Autumn. I also wonder if its possible that planning permission could actually go in early next year.
I guess if the Arthur is first would it be that bad if we had a 17k capacity for 1 season??
Maybe not..

Agree it will look unique, but may have corners too at least on a lower tier level. The current dead space between the AW and Whitehorse is definitely worth looking at, as is the other side between the Main and Whitehorse to link up with a new main stand.

Must have been said already, we may have a 26k stadium now but it doesn't hold that really. 23k is probably about it. After that it's just blocked views, corners, uncovered bits and single seats that are difficult to sale. If Charlton can still easily allow in an average of 18k in a more modern 27k place when they are rubbish, then bring on the 40k for us. We would fill it. We aren't planning here for the championship. To get real income we need more space.

You have a point, undoubtebly. What concerns me most about the AW is the opinion of away fans. It's pretty obvious from reading opposition message boards that some fans are put off by returning to Selhurst because the facilities are so dire.

Whether we'd keep the away fans in the new stand remains to be seen but adding an extra 500 fans or so per week due to far higher satisfaction would certainly help to finance any redevelopments.

I haven't sat in the Main Stand for a few years but even before the renovations, it was quite a bit better than the AW so I'd only imagine that has only got better.

People might have said the same about Stamford Bridge in the not-too-distant past. A few years of sustained success at Palace and we will be a very different proposition. There's plenty of scope for expanding our fanbase. We've had big crowds before, we could get them again.

i hope we can keep the "retro" feel of Selhurst but with excellent facilities, along the lines of Villa Park but better facilities and with with our own identity....a retro stadium will be seen as something special when everyone else has identikit grounds. Specifically also, building to maximize acoustics/atmosphere and thus crowd volume/participation is important. If we can build even further on the excellent atmosphere we have now, it will attract more fans simply because of the amazing match-day experience.....do we still have pitchside ad hoardings that kids can bang and rumble on?? I used to love that as a kid and I reckon it should be built in to a plan if it isn't already
