Can't people just enjoy the fact that he is playing well instead of using it to have a pop at other supporters. No none can be right all the time when judging a player but you can always have a bit of class whether right or wrong.

Interesting that he puts in that stellar performance after Pardew referred to him as number 1 on Friday for the first time? If he can keep up that form we will not need to spend and hopefully Alex (who has been injured, but kept away from the press by Pards) will develop to be a more than able challenge long term (with the best will in the world this is probably the last season as a player for Jules). Our defensive first choice 5 will let few goals in when all on form.

Absolutely world class save from Long in the first half and a match winning stop at the death. Well deserved no.1 by now

being a sub keeper is a bit shit really. I mean how many times in a season do you get a game - once? twice?

I've been critical of Hennessey for seemingly not making a match winning save in the past.
Call it good positioning, but every save up until the Everton game was quite comfortable, and I was worrying that what we have gained in aerial presence over Jules we've lost in the ability to pull a save out of his arse and win the match when required. After the last two matches I think that I can shut up now - Hennessey has taken his chance to be #1 and I can't really see any argument left against him. Well done Wayne. |

Wayne would have sealed the respect of his team mates yesterday with that final save from Long - got us the three points and it showed with Damo giving him a hug...I like his calm approach no screaming histrionics

Methuselah Hennessey does have a ring about it.

Just watched an old YouTube of Danny Butterfield's remarkable 6-minute hat-trick against Wolves.
Never realised who was in goal for them that night!

Finally, the best man for the job presently is between the sticks and even the most anti-Hennessey cannot fail to be impressed with the last few performances.
The way he comes out and just picks up balls that would have lesser goalkeepers stretching is a joy to behold and fills the whole team with calm and confidence. Combine that with world class saves and it's improved us no end. So we now find ourselves where we should have been, Hennessey in goal, undisputed No1, but where does that leave the rest? Speroni really ought to have been our No2 while we look for the a really highly rated, young 'keeper. The McCarthy signing was always a bit odd, since he was considered worse than the universally maligned Robert Green at QPR, but he could still have a future here, albeit perhaps following a loan move elsewhere. Alternatively, Speroni goes and McCarthy is No2, but aged just two years younger than Hennessey, it's not an ideal situation for him. |
