why do we need to see if he's good enough? He's not some17 year old youth team player. He's an international footballer. Of course he's good enough.
Is he better than Julian? Thats the question. |

His form for Wales has been fantastic

All positions in the team should be picked on form. It's fair to say that a keeper probably gets a bit more leeway, but when his form dips to the extent that Speroni's has I don't think he could have any complaints about losing his place. There is now an obvious pattern to the goals we are conceding. Whether it is a temporary loss of form or something more permanent I think Hennessey would have every right to be disappointed if he isn't now given an opportunity.
Aside from the problem with parrying shots towards opposition players and the poor distribution, Speroni also looks really vulnerable from any in swinging corner. Time for a change in my view - even if it's just a case of giving him a rest for a few weeks. |

What I have seen of him he looks eminently capable, which right now I struggle to say about Julian. He is making at least one howler a game.

Some people will defend Jules no matter what, so many blinded by respect for the guy. Yes Dann should of done better but it was a weak shot and an easy hold! The fact is he has cost us too many points this season and is no longer good enough. You could say 'what about the points he's won us' but has he won us any points this season? How many games could you say we only won it because of Jules performance?

Dann and Speroni both culpable last night....been saying for a few games Hennessey should get a chance.....look what happened at Liverpool....another talented keeper prone to the odd lapse - Mignolet was having a mare....got a kick up the arse for a few games, came back better....Dann as we all know is the best CB we've had in a while, just have to put that one in the "what was he thinking" category and move on....maybe just wanted to avoid another red by taking the guy out and then bottled any kind of challenge.

The independent is pretty scathing this morning about Jules and starts with that on the review of the game, surely Pardew reads the back pages? This can't keep going on.

Yes I agree and for the last four games he seems to have developed a habit of pushing the ball back into the middle of the goal when saving !!! I love the bloke but Hennessy has been pretty patient and as people have pointed out he has looked really good for Wales and no one can question his distribution qualities

I'm all for keeping a consistent team, but Souare made one mistake and was made an example of, if we're being fair.
How do we know what the future holds if Hennessey isn't given a chance? How do we know whether we need to buy a new Goalkeeper if he isn't given a chance?

Having seen the goal Crawley conceded last night at least we know Lewis Price isn't the answer any more, shocking stuff!

Probably because Pardew and the coaching team spend every day with him and are intelligent enough to make a decision without needing a few fans on a forum to decide for him what he needs to do.

Exactly my thoughts on the matter.

Pretty clear where Pulls was going. It is what happens on the pitch that is important and Jules is becoming more and more of a liability. Personally feel that the coaching staff such as Millen are letting sentiment rule their heads. In preseason Wayne was certainly far better than Jules in the goals not let in department. I just don't want to see Jules destroyed on the field and last night you could see the impact on him of that weak goal.

It's got nothing to do with Pape Souare being made an example of, rather ensuring that he is given time to adjust to the rigours of English football. I think Alan Pardew referenced his experience with Mathieu Debuchy in his decision to put Souare on the bench.

While the defending wasn’t great it is lunacy to use that as an excuse for that goalkeeping. I am one of the biggest fans of Jules going but it’s happening too many times.
I think it is an issue with his eyes. His reactions seem pretty spot on still but he’s getting his hands in the wrong place. I’ve seen it happen in cricket before when very good cricketers just suddenly fall apart. He looked a bit frozen to his line when West Ham hit the bar on Saturday as well. AP either has to hope that it’s a bad run of form and he gets himself out of it, or decide if he trusts Hennesey enough for a few games. I have reservations about Hennesey and only think he is superior with his handling but maybe it’s time to give him a go.

I'd be very worried if a top-flight manager was in any way influenced by the press (or the BBS!) on matters of team selection.

Maybe, after watching him in training over the last, what, 9 weeks, Pardew still thinks Jules is the better option?
He had a chance v Southampton in the Cup and made mistakes with the goals. Since then, Pardew had a chance to give him another chance in the Cup v Liverpool and to give Speroni a "rest". And he didn't take the chance. Speroni is on the way down and we certainly need a new number 1, but consider perhaps that Pardew has seen enough of both to know Hennessey may not give enough of an upgrade to make such an important change. |

Posts like this are ridiculous. He last played for Wales in 2014. He could have fallen in and out of form 3 or 4 times since then.
Also, the game before last (or maybe one before) he had a shocker and nearly cost Wales the match when he dropped a simple catch from a freekick.
