That'd be alright, but he parried it to Leicester players about 8 times a couple of weeks back. We were lucky that Leicester's finishing was awful.

Can't see how Speroni gets in the team , he can't save penalties , his kicking is terrible , he parries shots to often , he doesn't come for high balls .

New 1st choice keeper in the summer required.
Sadly Jules is on the wane. |

I don't think his performances are good enough. WH was denied a chance in the cup game last week, a good performance then would have been enough for me to see him start against Arsenal. |

I don't think that Speroni is playing well at the moment, but if Hennessey cannot force his way into the side with three consecutive managers when Speroni isn't playing well he is unlikely to be the long term answer. OK, we can only tell if he is given a chance but I wouldn't be confident changing things right now, it may do more harm than good.
If we stay up, I think we'll go into next season with a new first choice goalkeeper. Hennessey and Speroni may well stay to fight out second and third choice between them, possibly with an additional coaching role for Jules. But, sadly, Jules time as first choice is probably coming to an end. |

Well, exactly that is the point I'm making. Clearly Pardew has already made the call that Julian is the better keeper, presumably based on performances so far both in games and in training, and it didn't take him long to do so either. As did Pulis and Warnock before him.

He's not here anymore, but PK had a good suggestion for a future number 1 if Hennessey doesn't take that mantle.
Smithies from Hudds is a good young keeper.

Unfortunately he is making fundamental basic mistakes that are costing us in games. No one doubts his shot stopping ability but I'd rather have a keeper that can do the basics the right. He is a legend and this cannot be ignored but it doesn't mean that people should continue to wear rose tinted glasses when it comes the mistakes he is making week after week |

Debatable issues? Has cost us points all season due to not being able to the basic fundamentals.

Like Speroni and still think he's got it in him to do extraordinary things, but week in week out may be asking too much now. That said, Hennessy has not exactly been knocking down the door with his performances. Need an experienced keeper aged between 28 to 32 in the summer from overseas

I've just seen a replay of their second goal for the first time. Dear oh dear oh dear.
Julian has been a fantastic servant to the club but it really is time to relieve him of first team duties, before it all turns extremely sour. Too many basic errors this season by far.

No doubt Julian Speroni is making a few basic errors of late, most notably when pushing the ball out (easier said than done) when under pressure. But I do ask is now the time for change? knowing with any change what the consequences could be as a couple of losses could put us right back in the mire. Personally I feel for now we should stick with the proven JS rather than pressurise Hennessey, and then if we are safe in the last 2/3 games put him in, in preparation for next season to see if he is the answer.
I am a big fan of JS, and he deserves being respected by All fans for his superb contributions over many years for the club, ok he has made a few errors of late but is still top quality and still able to do the best job of all our current keepers. Any change needs to be timed correctly or we pay the penalty, next season is a whole new issue and I am sure change will come. |

Promoted teams which stay up in their first season often struggle in subsequent seasons when they don't upgrade key positions out of loyalty.
I'd put Jules and Delaney in that category. Both to be upgraded in the summer. Problem is I don't think Henessy is an upgrade enough to make the change immediately. If he was, one of Pulis, warnock or pardew would have started him. That pardew didn't in the cup speaks volumes. |

Starting to get really annoyed by all the Speroni bashing now. FFS he is not superman, and he isn't going to stop everything. You could possibly argue that he could have done better for the second goal, but had the officials done their job, the situation would never have arisen.
If he was constantly making mistakes, I could understand it. But he isn't imo (and I am a goalkeeper myself.) |
