It's just you.
Mind you, there has definitely been an increase in the number of drivers who don't bother to indicate, and they are mainly minicab drivers.
Saw a lycra boy try to undertake a van that was clearly indicating turning left this morning.

Yes it is, they have a great system in many countries. In Seville the bike paths are excellent...however, who is going to pay for this new infrastructure? Maybe cyclists should pay an extra tax in terms of insurance, roadworthiness tests etc to help pay for it?

Or, it could be offset by the costs that the NHS save going forwards from all those taking up cycling take off the national tax bill but not being health liabilities.

Cyclists owe the paying road user, and the public purse absolutely nothing.
Riding your bike instead of driving anywhere and you are doing the future of the country's finances a favour.

Cyclists lighten the load, not contribute to it. This is why they are already pumping millions from the tax purse into changing infrastructure, so that more people will take it up, also easing the burden on public transport.

Of course, if cyclists could only ride their bikes safely as part of the traffic stream, and not separate from it and not ride in dangerous positions, communicating what they are going to do and when in plenty of time, then infrastructural/segregational change wouldn't be as necessary. Trying to undo decades of telling cyclists they are somehow 'lower' in the road-going hierarchy though, forcing them on mass to default to the overly dangerous left-hand side of vehicles, well that's going to take time. But it will happen.

Walking around my local town yesterday there were at least a dozen adults cycling on the pavements, another riding the wrong way down a one way section before cutting across the pavement and descending the no cycling slope into the subway. Seven out of seven cyclists on reaching one particular set of traffic lights controlling a single lane section all just mounted the pavement and road on until they reached the other end of the controlled area and returned to the road.

Pretty appalling behaviour from most if I'm honest and I'm a bloody cyclist these days.

almo0st got run over today upon exiting London Bridge station by a lady using a scooter on the pavement. The thing is the pavements are so busy at london bridge no sane cyclist would use them this scooterist scum thought it was reasonable.

If the cyclist was in a cycle lane he had right of way, not that I would put me and the bike in the way to make the point.

I would hate segregated cycling paths. Reading a few books about cycling around\across Europe and most avoid Holland as it is slow progress and at times takes you miles out of the way.

Be careful with that one. One of those myths that the highway code is always the law. Its not. Where cases have gone to court after a collision responsibility has been decided on the facts and blame usually apportioned not always in the cyclists favour.

I was in Munich at the weekend and they had cycle paths built into pretty much every pavement and everyone was using them. Very different cycling culture though. Everyone was pootling around at about 8mph on hybrids. Didn't see one road bike all weekend.

Much like pretty much everything else, I think the cycling culture in the UK is very different to the rest of Europe.

Can't see how give way for broken lines and stop for solid can be interpreted any other way. It is supposed to be the whole point of cycle lanes, to offer those using them protection and the advantage of not having to stop in lines of traffic. As I say I ignore the rule, or rather I assume everyone else will.

A large proportion of cycling deaths do not have a subsequent prosecution either even where the driver was at fault. I don't know how often this applies in motor vehicle vs. motor vehicle deaths. Reading between the lines it appears if a custodial sentence is not likely it doesn't go any further than a magistrates court.

The cycle lanes on the side of the road are a sham in London, when half the time, buses don't fit into the lane without eating into them and they stop for bus stops anyway

He wasn't. And even if he was, how sensible is it to try to overtake a vehicle turning left? Not very, is the answer.

Yes, we have lots of cyclists in London who seem to be confused between the ideas of commuting by bike and training for the next Tour.
The cities that have been mentioned as good examples of 'cycling towns' are way smaller than London, are not as densely populated and have less traffic.
London simply isn't built for mass cycling. It's not the fault of cyclists that it's just not very bike friendly, but it is the fault of some of them that they cycle around as though it is.

It should be as safe as passing a car waiting to pull out of a junction that has a give way or stop markings. But it isn't, as car drivers seem to think they have the priority on every bit of road regardless of the law or road markings. The Cycle lanes were designed for exactly that purpose.

What's the difference between someone on a hybrid travelling slower in jeans or road bike in "lycra" who maybe is fitter and able to travel faster? Or are you as I suspect just sneering at cyclists who choose to wear comfortable cycling clothing and ride an expensive bike?

Anyone male over 21 in Lycra who is not either Wiggins, Hoy or Boardman should be sneered at.
