Any CX bike or any bike really would qualify if you want drop bars or any hybrid. Most new road bikes can take a 28mm tyre for a bit more shock absorption

I bought a 1500 carbon bike and commuted on it when I was 18 stone. You might have to check out the wheels for a weight limit but I never did, it never occurred. Decent commuting miles too. Best thing I ever did aged 45.

There's a thread for bike connoisseurs, no riff-raff, on World of Sport, adman. Spunky will help you out in there. He runs a bike shop in Wallington, does Palace fan discounts as well.

Ok, here's a question, where is the responsibility and intelligence of the adults who, as this article states, were in a group with young children?

Surely they have some responsibility to realise that a ******* idiot is behind their group, acting irrationally and aggressively towards them and they should pull over, let the twat pass and then they can carry on? To just continue to cycle as this idiot swerves, blows his horn etc is idiotic on itself and almost as irresponsible as the car driver.

They continued to cycle, antagonising him even more. Maybe the group need to take a look at their actions as well and learn from it?

On Cyclists your Views are very biased and mainly I think colored by London commuters on bikes who are not representative of this country's Cyclists in general.. as a motorcyclist you should really have a more balanced take on things but so far your view is stereotyped and yes victim-blaming.

I've said before Cyclists ... But it's mainly commuters on bikes who jump traffic lights even once should have their bike taken away and crushed...job done!

As a sligt aside can anyone tell me why cyclists prefer to cycle on busy dual carriageways than on the cycle network that's been built all over Teesside? It's crazy that the two big dual carriageways between Redcar and Middlesbrough have a purpose built cycle path running alongside them that was built in the last 5 years and appears to be in perfect shape and yet every rush hour you have at least 3 random cyclists riding in the middle of lane 1... where's the sense in that?

That would likely discourage people from cycling - not what the government wants.

Right.

It's all well and good criticising in hindsight but I'm sure at the time they were thinking that they were doing the right thing. I've been in situations where a car has pulled up behind me and started honking their horn within seconds -- it's not just a simple matter of pulling over and the whole matter being resolved because nothing is every simple.

Where do you pull over? How do you let the other cyclists in your group know? Does the driver know you're pulling over? Is he aware that that's why you're slowing down?

These situations can escalate so quickly that sometimes there isn't much time to think about what to do. It's often the case that if I have cars behind me I'll pull over if/when there's a lay-by in which to do it. If not, I'll keep going until I'm on a straight road and slow down, giving the driver an opportunity to pass.

And if you're cycling with kids and someone is driving like a ******* lunatic, there's absolutely no way you wouldn't remonstrate with the driver.
