Looking back I think Parish saw the old bargain signs and rushed into buying him without really working out where he would play.

They way he has been playing I think Punch or Sako would do a better job on the left, he doesnt look interested

Anyone with basic knowledge of the game knows that Townsend is very inconsistent and does not fit the essential criteria of thirty plus good games per season.

No it's not, AP dropped Cabaye this season and he's come back stronger, and good to see AP now not above dropping AT to gee him up for Lee who has deserved a start. Mind you he has one of the highest number of crosses in the Premier league this season, so he won't be on the bench for long

Clueless Pardew.
Except that Kelly was pretty good yesterday, rarely beaten by Clyne and few crosses came from his side of the pitch, kept good positioning and went forward well, whereas Fryers is questioned for his overall positional sense and defending ability and is having his game/confidence slowly rebuilt so he is actually useful to us. I suspect he would have got crucified yesterday.

I have sympathy with him, its not like he is playing out of position to cover a weakness, no thats his position full time and one he isn't that good at. When he was bought I wonder if Pardew told him he would be on the left?

Maybe have a switch over during the game but not the hole match
That's what the ******* full backs are for! To overlap and provide width and cross with their natural foot. Townsend and Zaha would then have space to cut in and shoot. Such a shame we only have one real full back on our books. And he's injured. Ward is a centre back in the making. He's a great defender. But a full back he is not.

How have I missed this? So basically Townsend has said he wants to play in Wilf's position?

If so, Wilf has been far superior and rightly Townsend was on the bench.

We have possibly the best striker in the league in the air. One who thrives from crosses. Wilf should play on right, and Townsend on left.

It's weird that he was bought to play on the right, that Zaha played on the left to begin with, and now switched back to the right. Can only think it's because of our full backs. No other team in the Premiership plays with a right footed winger on the right and a left footed winger on the left. It's just not modern football. If we want to see the best of Andros and Wilf we need to switch them over, buy some full backs and give it time.

But before we do any of that we MUST get Zaha signed up on a new contract.

No. The crosses should come in from the overlapping full backs. Wilf and Townsend should be going for goal, the full backs should be crossing for Benteke.

I personally thought that the first couple of games showed that Wilf's left foot is practically non-existent, so playing him on the left is an exercise in futility.

He's a much more effective player than Zaha, as his time at Newcastle under Benitez shows. I'd much rather play him there. Sure Wilf can get over it.
