Christian Scales let go by Orient. True story: he was about to be let go by Palace but he played in an U21 game at Charlton and Arsenal scouts asked who he was because they were so impressed. Pardew saw him play and heard about it and he was given a new deal here. Then struggled in the U21s next season and got let go

I really think this list highlights how silly some posters are on here when they constantly call for the youth to be played with little to no context or knowledge of the quality of our youngsters. The reality is that most of our u16s/18s don't even make it pro, yet we sulk when the manager doesn't pick them.

Sure, there are pleasant surprises like with Clyne and AWB (who weren't deemed ready but injuries meant we had no choice but to field them), but for the most part our academy graduates play non-league footy, so even a Mutch or a Lee are better options, as unbelievable as that may sound!
Also highlights how extraordinary the youth team in the 70’s was with at least 5 full internationals plus the likes of Billy Gilbert and Vince Hilaire all coming from one year group.

Will Hoare has just joined Skellefteå FF in the fourth tier of Swedish football.

Christian Scales is joining him too.
