One from me.
2004 Final at Cardiff. Booked the last room at a B&B right opposite the Millenium Stadium in Cardiff (literally opposite the ground on the other side of the river Taff - lovely view of the ground!) Booked it as soon as we made the final, yet when we got there, all the other rooms were full of West Ham fans - the cocky buggers had all booked up before their team had even qualified for the Final. Over breakfast they were full of confidence, we just kept quiet and remained modest about our chances. We were on the streets of Cardiff really early in the day, but it was wierd as to how few Palace were there early compared to West Ham. When some saw us in their colours they were so confident and cocky with it. Eventually our numbers did increase, cue a great day, and a brilliant drive home amongst loads of miserable West Ham fans!!!

Tony, 3-7-2001 "Well, as I said before, we are only 6 points behind 4th from bottom with the prize of an additional £65 million (minimum) if we stay up. So, we'd be bonkers if that wasn't the top priority. Nobody's giving up on staying in this league." CPFC2010, 5-11-2013 |

Here's a blast from the past. Our first 2 matches in the play-offs; it was only the 3rd season after their introduction.
The away leg was a desperately disappointing performance after a fantastic run of form had propelled us into contention. Going into the Easter weekend we looked pretty well out of it but in the end we were only a couple of goals away from automatic promotion. It was just about the hottest day that I've watched football in this country in just about the most over-crowded terrace which wasn't a great combination. The atmosphere of the home leg is legendary and rightly so. Strange that Swindon were given the middle compound of The Holmesdale; they'd clearly only given us the minimum allocation that they could get away with at The County Ground. I remember the final 5 or 10 minutes being unbearable. It was a standard Coppell tactic at the time to pull everybody behind the ball and just sit on a single goal lead. That evening it made for unbelievably stressful watching but I guess it paid off. Great finish by Wright. Does anybody have footage of the away leg of the Blackburn final? |

Just to wrap this up, after all the memories of previous finals we wrote about on the site, a few of our writers wrote a couple of hundred words each on Monday's final.

Totally agree about the black boots - I think you would be hard pushed to buy a pair of proper black boots these days. Don't recall the stand being rebuilt in the background, but maybe the couple of pre-match beers fuddled the memory, although do recall getting back to Euston around 5am - happy days. |

My other abiding memory from the day is of a bloke just in front of me on that baking hot terrace who spent most of the afternoon celebrating the previous day's events at Hampden Park by very loudly singing, "Who put the ball in the Rangers' net? Little Joey Miller." |

Just seen the Watford game again on sky
Interesting how many fairly 'journeyman' players had such good games - O'Keefe, Wilbraham, Moxey Damo was brilliant Garvan had a brilliant season and looked class - but has now almost sunk without trace - shows how precarious the life of a footballer can be |

Nothing will beat the Hopkin final. Especially after what happened the year before.

After the 1990 final there was a program shown on the thursday I think possibly called crime monthly. 1t was in 2 1/2s and the first part was about the final. It showed fans on their way to the ground and parts of the game and what the police were doing. I was on it was some friends and family and would love to see a copy if anyone recorded it. Unfortunately I lent my video to someone and it wasnt returned.

because the wankers should never have been allowed to "drop" Jim Leighton and bring in Les Sealy and basically stole the cup from under our noses.
