Boot sale VHS score this morning. Was just about to leave and spotted the corner of a case which turned out to be an old full match video of Palce v Millwall from 89/90 season!

And what a match that was. The scores went 0-1, 3-1, 3-3 and finally 4-3 with a fantastic Mark Bright shot into the top corner. Lovely stuff. Hopkin scored a memorable own goal soaring over Suckling's head to open the scoring.

Ahhh, the memories - as a boy, I used to watch this match time and time again on the season review video. It had extended highlight of it.

Watching players kick it back to their keepers and them picking up just looks weird.

You wonder how any team could ever have conceded after going 1-0 up...could have spent the rest of the 90 minutes with the goalie and defence playing keep ball. In fact Liverpool came pretty close to perfecting that art at times in the 1980s. Grobelaar to Nicol to Hansen, back to Grobelaar, to Lawrenson etc etc and so on and so forth.

Except when you have a genius like Jeff Hopkin in your side and he lofts his back pass high over his keeper's outstretched arms and into your own net (see 1st goal in Palace 4 Millwall 3 match).

Yes. Channel got closed down. Same day CP site produced the season reviews that fans could pay £1 each to watch.....

Thanks to all those that enjoyed my footage - maybe they will return one day....?

Damn!! Was planning to watch some old matches while in lockdown! Obviously a lot of effort; would you consider putting them up on another site like Dailymotion?

I believe another former Palace keeper, Tony Millington was at West Brom whilst this clip was filmed, I will leave it to older Palace fans to decide if he is in camera too.

As well as this obviously spartan training facilities used by West Brom, which I’m certain I had better at my own school in the early 1970’s, it was of huge interest to see the two legendary figures of Bobby Robson and Don Howe there too, so early in their careers, who went on to be among the greatest coaches in the history of our game.
That was a brilliant bit of television. Enjoyed the old boys having their haircut by one of the players from the 1931 cup winning side. Seems so long ago but at the time of this documentary it would have been only 30 years. Would be like us popping in to get Geoff Thomas to shave the old barnet. Interesting watching the poor old manager having to be interrogated by the old farts who made up the Board of Directors. Did you get the impression he wasn't picking the team? He said at one point, " I recommend we play the same team on Saturday." This was much more interesting than watching a doc showing some modern player driving his brand new motor through the electric gates of some sterile billionaire community. Real football, real people and real television. Makes you nostalgic for the old black and white telly and a jar of brylcream.

Very interesting, I watched Bobby Robson make his Fulham debut before he went to WBA'
Used to watch Archie Macauly play for Arsenal when they had players such as Leslie Compton and Joe Mercer.

Our link with WBA was Dick Graham who was our ex keeper and their trainer.

In memory of our late lamented Bbser.......Kevan woz Awful( truly Awful)

We at one time could have virtually put out a team, Millington,Burnside,Keith Smith etc.

I agree with that and a good one too. Dave Burnside was a very accomplished inside forward (the modern attacking midfielder).

This WBA documentary is brilliant. So many funny observations.

"It's like taking the sugar out of a bloke's tea when hes not looking."

As for that player at 32 going into sales commenting that it's hard to learn a new trade at his age!! Jesus, I've changed career 4 times since that age. And I know a lot of folks constantly have to change career path.

Interesting comment though about players finding it easier in sales roles to get appointments with the buyers.

"This is Geoff Thomas, I want to sell you some stuff. Can I come and see you."
"What are you selling?"
"Expensive ironing board covers and VHS tapes."
"Yeh, come and see me tomorrow Geoff."

Would be piss easy to get appointments!
