fan trouble at Selhurst.
As a regular visiter since 1990 i have never experienced any kind of trouble with away fans.
Just wondering about anyone else, home or away? |

Both.

The Birmingham Riot at SP in 1989 was the worst I have seen, and Millwall away around 1982ish was horrible being chased all the way to New Cross Gate for no reason other than being a Palace fan even though they snatched a draw in the last minute.

remember both and vividly the 1982 match; was 10 and with my old man!!! Was it in the fa cup - with Tony Mahoney scoring the goal?

I remember Portsmouth taking over the Holmesdale back in 88 I think and having at least 10,000 out of the 18,000 crowd when they only needed a draw to go up.
Salako scored in the last minute to win it for us. I remember being chased by loads of Pompey fans down towards Thorton Heath high street and escaping on a 68 bus.

After a bit of research, the millwall game I am refering to is 1985 - but whenever we/anyone went there trouble always came looking!!!

You may be right about it being 1985 - Mahoney scored with a header in the 1st half, we then held on grimly before finally buckling after a succession of corners in the last few minutes.

we did indeed - sure we were in the rather fetching red kit with white/blue sash. Also remember our end being full of millwall and them taunting the palace fans for a bit of bother the whole match

oh the memories!!! It was my first ever away game, imagine my old man's face when I kicked and screamed until he agreed to take me to the match.....at that stage of my life I was unaware of 'hooliganism'!!!! Very enlightening

My lasting memory of the day other than the 2 goals is literally slamming the train door shut and it thankfully pulling away before they could get to us. I was still getting my breath back when I got home.

Birmingham at SP in May 1989 is easily the worst I have seen involving Palace. To watch mounted policemen on horses charge across the pitch from the corner of the main stand/Whitehorse Lane towards the Birmingham 'fans' in the opposite corner has remained long in the memory.
Birmingham fans had come in fancy dress to 'celebrate' their relegation to Division Three and the problem began when three hundred or so of them arrived late and forced their way in. Trouble started after Ian Wright scored out first goal after about ten minutes and game held up for thirty minutes. |

Brum game at home in 89 was horrible. Millwall at home in 86 there was troble. At away games, I've seen it a Filbert Street, Leicester (or in the surrounding streets at least!), Plymouth and Bristol City whilst following Palace!

Worst I experienced was Millwall in 95 when we beat the 4-1 at the Den. Groups of Millwall supporters picking off Palace fans on that road that leads off to South Bermondsey. Was a nasty atmosphere and a big reason why many seem to miss this fixture since.

Bournemouth away in the mid eighties must be right up there..Went back the next year and it was heavier policing than the Notting Hill carnival.

Sunderland in play-offs and Brighton last season has been the only trouble I have ever seen in the few years I have been going to Selhurst.
