Brighton away 1987 I think, on an Easter Monday.
Got a scar, still got it after been hit above the eye with a coin. It was a day of hate and Palace fans were no angles and looted an off licence at Heywords Heath on the way down. A crazy day pool balls being thrown from pubs. The Millwall game in 1985 I sat in the stand and left before the Millwall scored it was so eerie and got the hell out of there. |

Man City supporters threw a bit of a strop when we knocked them out of the coca cola cup in 95.

Away at Wolves once, giving a family friend who played for the club a lift home, Wolves fans recognised him when we stopped at the 1st service station on the Mway and decided to run out after us and aim a few kicks at the car as we drove off.

Strange thing was when I next went there (the following season I think) it was completely different - no Millwall fans in our area and no real sign of trouble. The game was also different - it was our turn to equalise in the last minute (Cannon from a corner, I think).

And when I put the Sam Browne on she was smiling with the tears. As she placed the broad black brimmer on my head. |

Brum at home in 89 the woorst I recall at home but frequent issues with Leeds and Chelsea in previous years.
Obviously the scum from Bermondsey and Brigt*n have caused many an upset home and away Apart from that Wolves away when we went top under Bruce was bad news, after the game that is, they truly are scum

Worst ever for me was Swindon vs Gillingham in the second leg playoff final 1987. Coined by the Swindon fans, one of the blokes next to me on the terrace was hit by a golf ball with nails through it. Swindon won 2-1 (second leg) after losing at Priestfield 1-0 and the match went to a replay at Selhurst Park which was my first ever match there.
After the match a police escort from the stadium to the station (about a mile) led approximately 3000 Gills fans with a dozen coppers. At the way looking up side streets you could see Swindon fans gathering until at the station a group of about 1000 Swindon fans broke through the police a charged the gillingham fans into the station. They had bats, bars, snooker cues everything. Remember being very frightened and pegged it through the station to the trains only for the Swindon fans to also run through the station and smash all the train windows and rock the train before it pulled off. Very scary and I was only 12. Started going to Palace the following season and never looked back. Worst at Palace was the 89 Birmingham game although there has been a few bad Millwall matches, one where they ripped up the seats and threw them into the Holmesdale and the other where they jumped down from the away fans enclosure at the back of the Arthur into the Palace fans when it was segregated that way (87/88 I think).

Distress flares in the park as I remember. Quite an enlightening experience. Another I seem to recall was home v Bolton in the FA Cup in the early 80's. Must have been the 3rd round 'cos I remember it was dark. Side road near Selhursrt station. Scaffolding poles flying around like a scene from Zulu. Shocking really. Fortunately soccer's a far safer beast nowadays. |

QPR at Loftus Road. FA Cup quarter-final, early 80's; the atmosphere was venimous throughout. Think it's the one time the pre-match hype and fears about the likelihood of trouble (what with it being QPR/Venables/other ex-Palace) were well and truly realised ... before, during and after. Who'd forget the drop-kick on John Burridge?
Clive Allen's late winner, his run (no hang on, sprint) to the Palace end was cue for the ensuing riot to begin. Don't think I've experienced anything like it
