That was a fantastic day! I remember that once it had all calmed down, Palace fans stormed the pitch again. The players went up into one of the upper tiers to throw their kits down to the Palace fans. I recall seeing a football boot being lobbed down, catching one unaware fan right in the face.

On the way out of the ground three QPR lads tried to get at the Palace fans, one holding only what I can describe as a machete. He was tackled and given a bit of a kicking by a couple of coppers before he got to the away fans.
I managed to get one of the Palace shirts that day. It turned out to be the legendary Jamie Moralee's.

Well we met you at Charing Cross and tubed it across to West London. You weren't allowed in the ground and according to you spent the first half in the pub. You got in the ground later in the side bit, probably when they opened the gates. You were then spotted running across the pitch. Think you then got escorted off the pitch. Next thing I heard you had been arrested because of an alleged run in with a police horse I believe.

TBH I am suprised you remember anything Mel!

One of the best games ever, although didn't realise at the time that it'd be the last time to date that I'd see us beat them. Would of celebrated even more wildly if I'd known. Was about 16 at the time and remember for some reason we travelled up to Victoria beforehand and then got the train back south to Selhurst. Train was packed with wasted Chelsea fans and we got quite a lot of stick, some friendly some not. Their behaviour got to the point that the train driver stopped the train and announced that he wouldn't continue to Selhurst until people behaved themselves. I'd say the Holmesdale was about 1/3 Chelsea that day and it was a hostile atmopshere. Remember some huge neanderthal getting my friend by the throat at the end for daring to sing a Palace song. Coleman's goal with the ball sticking in the mud and nearly not creeping over as he ran away to celbrate and when Townsend scored for Chelsea nearly the whole old stand going up. There were loads of the buggers there that day, no doubt having made the long journey from Croydon and Bromley!

The worst take over of Selhurst though was the Man Utd game later that season, it honestly felt like being at an away game in the home end.

Re: fan trouble at Selhurst.

We always seemed to have a good ding-dong with Arsenal in the eighties, although we were always well outnumbered. Their fans seemed to be the most obnoxious and arrogant at the time.

One occasion, no idea what year, the Whitehorse mob hid at the back of the Holmesdale, behind the grassy bank at the top, while us regular Holmesdale Enders took up our usual places (acting as bait!). The Arsenal fans arrived as expected and steamed in to the Holmesdale, initially appearing to take over as usual, only to be sent fleeing with their collective tails between their legs as the Whitehorse mob came 'over the hill' and surprised them.

Unfortunately weight of numbers eventually told and they still managed to take over half the Holmesdale, but it wasn't the total capitulation that we normally witnessed against the big London Clubs.

This incident is mentioned in the book "Hooligans" together with other clashes with Arsenal including the taking of the North Bank and a row at Euston.

With regard to previous posts Chelsea were twatted everywhere in compound 2 the night of that league cup game.

Both teams were playing in the North West. There had been some banter between the two sets of fans in the morning. When CP arrived back at Euston that night Arsenal were waiting. Sadly for Arsenal they received a bity of a pasting including some hit with fire extinguishers. The book mentions that was why they mobbed up in the Holmesdale as mentioned in the post above.

Birmingham fans had come in fancy dress to 'celebrate' their relegation to Division Three and the problem began when three hundred or so of them arrived late and forced their way in. Trouble started after Ian Wright scored out first goal after about ten minutes and game held up for thirty minutes.
This was my first game........I was nine. What a memory.....

WBA away 1987 - Brum supporters turned up for Palace in the town centre in retaliation for an 'altercation' on a train the week before.

Seem to remember a barman getting a dart in the neck that day, also one Palace supporter in hospital before the match and also being outnumbered about 10-1 in the town centre with ahail of beer glasses flying through the air....

It has no braid of gold or silk no hat with feathered plumes. Yet me Mother has preserved it all the while
One day she made me try it on, a wish of mine for years
"In memory of your father, Sean" she said.
And when I put the Sam Browne on
she was smiling with the tears.
As she placed the broad black brimmer on my head.

Where I was in E2 the night of the wet Chelsea game, a couple of chelsea took the piss. No opposition what so ever. I was about 14.

Anyone remember the Luton v stewards ruck in Feb 07? All over a flag in the no-mans land bit if I remember rightly.
