Bit of an obscure one here. It's a compilation of Bristol City goals from the 70's. At 7:28 is City's goal against Palace in the League Cup 2nd round at Ashton Gate in 78/79. Sadly Palace's goals aren't included; we won 2-1, a result that was something of an upset as City were a 1st Division team at the time.

Here's one you haven't got a link for I think on your database Barnabas:
1980/81 Leeds 1 Palace 0 A rarity: Ernie Whalley in charge.

... and Leeds' substitute, Alex Sabella is the current manager of Argentina. Nobody would have imagined that as being likely at the time.

Why were we wearing blue socks instead of the normal red and where did we get them from as our away kit was all yellow? Kit man forgot to pack the socks?

Thanks for the Nicko goal, Super Mabbs.
When compiling the database I decided to concentrate on match footage only, otherwise I would have had to include interviews, training ground footage and the like. The inclusion of the Arthur Wait footage would have meant the consideration of any Selhurst material, for example its use as a film or television location during the period concerned. Saying that, I would certainly have included the Mars Bar commercial that was shot during an evening match circa 1971, provided the game could have been identified. |

Not sure if this one has been shown before.
After the thrills and spills of the 1989/90 season, post FA Cup Final, Palace made a pre-season trip to Italy in the Summer of 1990 (shortly after England's memorable World Cup there too) to play in the Baretti Cup againd Fiorentina and Sampdoria. Palace lost 1-0 to Fiorentina but managed to defeat Sampdoria in a penalty shoot-out after a 1-1 draw. Great goal from Glyn Hodges (who was never the most popular of Coppell signings!) and a winner from Rudi Hedman. Worth noting that there were some very famous players in the Sampdoria line-up, including keeper Gianluca Pagliuca, defender Pietro Vierchowod, Giuseppe Dossena and up front they had Vialli and Roberto Mancini. Not to mention a certain Attilio Lombardo, who was in their squad but didn't play in this match. Fascinating viewing - great antics from Perry Suckling too!

Not sure if I've still got the old videos of both matches that were recorded at the time (both shown live on the Italian R.A.I TV ) - I'll have to have a look - it's been such a long time now! Always remember when Lombardo signed for Palace, seven years later, a rather smarmy TV interviewer asking him after his debut "You can't have even heard of Crystal Palace before" - well actually, Attilio did and I've got the proof!
