In the TaBloyeoids (Part 2).
So after the previous 70's quiz was done almost within 24 hours by those taking part I have returned as promised with another that should be more challenging ,(hopefully !).
The questions below match the headlines, this time i've also removed the months from the relevant years too !. Enjoy and post any memories jogged by the headlines. 1970- Who was quoted as saying what you see in the headline for Question 1 ? DARZET EAGLE has answered this one correctly (see post#23) 1976- What's the story behind the headline ? N Herts Eagle has answered this one correctly (see post#36) 1972- Who were we playing at Selhurst Park when the lights went out ? 1974- Name him and see if you can recall also the match and the competition. N Herts Eagle has answered this one correctly (see post#43) 1975- Name the match and score at Selhurst Park from the headline.big bad John has answered this one correctly (see post#17) 1973- The only clue is it is transfer related. big bad John has answered this one correctly (see post#3) 1978- Name the match and score at Selhurst Park. big bad John has answered this one correctly (see post#17) 1979- Which club made the offer ?. Am Phibian has answered this one correctly (see post#29) 1977- What's the story behind the headline ? geoffh has answered this one correctly (see post#18) 1971- An article rather than a headline but what was that Palace team estimated to be worth in 1971 ?,the only clue is the value is less than the Stoke City team of the time. N Herts Eagle has answered this one correctly (see post#36) I'll post an update tomorrow afternoon for those who have answered any of the questions, with regards to Question 10 you'll only get a higher or lower for now ! Question 4: Peter Taylor? under 23 against either Portugal or Czechoslovakia.
Question 6: Was Mick Hill. We signed him from Ipswich. Helicoptered him in to beat the deadline to play in a match? Don't know if the game was postponed or they still didn't make it in time. Got a terrible time from the fans but put in some decent performances away from home. Question 10. I know a few of our players were home grown and have a rough idea what the others cost. Guessing at 440,000 ?

Q2: Was that when ITV had some serioos strikes and there was no TV for days at a time so The Big Match couldn't show one of our FA cup exploits?
Q9: Was thinking maybe the Fulham match when the ref blew 7 minutes too early but thought was 1978. I was there waiting for the f/t results on The Holmesdale but at least 65% of the crowd gone home by the time the players came back out and restarted. Q8: Should know this but memory fading.....Villa or some northern club: Man City? Q10: £550,000 Q5: Swindon at home - 6-1? |

Q7 1978 Was it a Home game Vs Sheff Utd on a very icy pitch ? I seem to vaguely remember some Palace players getting very upset at a bad challenge by a Sheffield player

Going for the obvious and I'll say Bert Head. Very surprized that team cost more than 550,000. I take it, it's the fees Palace paid for them;not sell on fees? Will be interesting to see the break down. Very good questions.

Remember that it was the estimated value of the whole team rather than individuals, thats the figure required. £550,000 is not too far away as a guess though and is the closest so far. |

Bert Head is too obvious, surely? So Arthur Wait it is.

Are 6 and 7 Millwall ? Knocked them out of the cup in 75, but can't remember it being that cold. One of the few teams we played in both 75 and 78 so I'll go with them.

Q9 was that the late postponement (about 5 hours before kick off)before an evening match at Port Vale due to some of their players allegedly having flu, think it should have been a Monday evening. i think they and Palace had both had games on the Saturday 2 days earlier. Was rearranged for a week later on a Tuesday night I think and Palace lost 4-1. Did George Graham get sent off in his game? I think i was on the supporters' coach at Selhurst waiting to leave when the 'illness' news was found out.
