Has Sandor Torghelle been mentioned?

He could have made Hillsborough easier with a square pass instead of shooting!

Had reasonably high hopes when Dowie signed him. Unfortunately we should have signed the other Hungarian Zoltan Gera.

Was it Wayne Andrews who just couldn’t score for us. We played Coventry in a midweek game and he scored a screamer from 30 yards in the first minute. Mates who missed the start thought we were winding them up! He only ever scored that goal for us and when we got rid of him Coventry signed him!

Wayne Andrew’s previous record with Colchester United was a goal every 3.5 games. Another one of our last minute transfer window signings.
I was in the Arthur that night and Wayne took off on a run down the right wing towards the Whitehorse and just belted it. A sense of disbelieve that he had actually hit the target and scored.

Signed in the 2004/05 Premier League season (along with Wayne Andrews). Another striker who left his scoring boots at his previous club although we did have the magnificent AJ upfront often playing a lonely role.
Highlight of his career with us was his only goal in an 2-1 League Cup away win at Charlton although he was also sent off shortly after scoring. Loaned out to Panathinaikos the following season where his poor form continued. Basically replaced by another failure Jon Macken.

We were going to sign Gera until WBA kidnapped him

We have been blessed over the years with some great forwards, even if some of them were brief. What other mid size club could boast the likes of Wright, Bright, Salako, Armstrong, Jansen, Lombardo, AJ, Murray, Bolasie and now Wilf. If anyone can name a club that has seen better i’d like to hear it.

Leon McKenzie and Grant Watts.
I like Leon, proper south London boy from solid boxing stock. Really pleased he found a way through his mental health issues. |
