Went to the away game in Dec 79. Took seemed like forever to walk to the ground.
Very small intimate enclosed venue … Att 8000 IIRC Tommy McCann and I managed to sneak into the social club on the corner of the ground for a cheeky pre-game snifter. The train up was an old-school football special … normally used for transporting cattle.

I remember this game well, but only because I chose to go to the North London derby instead I fancied the daughter of the bloke who asked me to go!!

Not a bad season at all to make your debut. I hope you were allowed to go to the Burnley game.

You had to walk through a big park to get to the ground iirc.

I certainly was. End of the 78/79 season was a great time to pick up the Palace habit, no wonder I have been hooked ever since.
