Nothing to do with guaranteed first team football He however wanted to be more than 4th choice (understandably) at that stage of his career Club sold him, he didn’t ask to leave

Such a tidy finish yesterday. A lot of strikers would have missed that but he made it look easy.

Wright said in his first book that he was desperate to leave Palace once he heard Arsenal were interested. Noades confirms that here:
Wright has since said a few times that he didn’t want to leave Palace, but I think the first version was the real one. I think any Palace fan going around that time will tell you that he started that season differently; still gave 100% - he always did, but there was something in his demeanour- especially when he scored - that wasn’t quite like it was before. His head had been turned.

Now Kenny was a different story. He didn’t want to leave - he was happy at Palace, but Venables called him in one morning before training and said he was selling him to Arse.

Gayle is a quality championship striker and if he had played in the 4-4-2 era would have been capped by England by now unfortunately he just doesn’t have qualities needed to play as lone striker in modern system in the top flight as was proved Newcastle also deeming him surplus to requirements.

The only thing worse i can think of is Poyet letting him come here for the sake of a extra 3k a week which Murray wanted at the time , i'm perhaps clutching at straws but imagine how Brighton supporters then felt when he started performing for us , it doesn't make up for his loss back to them but it slightly softens the blow .

I still think if you find a player who knows where the goal is, a rare thing, you should keep hold of them unless they are banging the door down to leave. |

Wow, he won five games in a row in a specific competition, while losing at an alarming rate in the league. And then blew the final anyway.

Marco wasn't nearly as bad as some would suggest. Wrong player in a very direct system. Whoever replaced Wrighty was on a hiding to nothing. To lose 600k in a little over 4 months for a club of our stature was appalling business, and from memory Marco was purchased on the recommendation on people Sir Steve "respected"
