That was in terms of performance over the season the best team ever to be relegated from the Premiership. We lost Eddie McGoldrick and Geoff Thomas (who had an average season at best having had a £3m bid turned down) so in terms of that team splitting up, it really didn't happen. Yes Smith was the manager at the time but i think his managerial spell the following year and since with Wycombe and when he returned with us, showed we probably went up despite him rather than because of him. Then of course having gone up we become the only team to get relegated from the coverted 4th from bottom spot. Had we had a different manager in 1994/95 might it have made a huge difference to our club? |

My over-riding memory of the season is just how bizarre it felt, especially towards the second half of the season.
Everything just went to well. No real dramatics, no real heart in the mouth moments and just a sense, for once, that things would work out. We won the division at an almost canter and it was just a very strange time to be a Palace fan. An odd season. And one almost at total odds with the wider Palace experience. |

Playing Forest early on at home and winning 2-0, Dean Gordon's fierce free kick going in right down the throat of Mark Crossley. Singing 'what a waste of money' at Collymore all game who had a rare stinker against us.
Generally not playing all that well but just being to good for the other teams. The exception was a 5-1 win v Portsmouth and a 4-2 win at Brum which included the line of commentary 'what a meatball header' after Coleman scored a peach. Beating Millwall and Charlton both twice in the League and I think Anglo Italian Cup within a few days of each other. Damien Matthew equalising at Forest-a vital moment. Palace being the live game on ITV virtually every Sunday and winning. The team collecting the trophy in those naff t-shirts before kick off on the final day and then losing 2-0 to Watford in front of nearly 30,000.

The meatball header was against West Brom, which I think was a 4-1 away win? I remember Richard Shaw scoring in the 4-2 at Brum and a Midlands biased Greavsie was on co-commentator duty. He very rarely had a good word to say about us.

That win over Millwall was HUGE..Cracking atmosphere at Selhurst that day and Armstrong scored one of my fave ever Palace goals - Lovely diving header which gave Keller no chance.
Nige was very lucky to escape a red after totally taking out Dave Mitchell outside the box :-) Right up there with Palace's best ever derby win.. Last edited by BuktaBoy; 16-04-2013 at 03:10 PM. |

Can someone who went to the penultimate game away @ Boro please agree that this was orgasmic, as it can't only be me !
About 7k at Ayresome Park, 2.5k from Palace. Supped champagne all night and woke up @ 8am the following morning, on a grass verge at the top of my street, being prodded with an umbrella by a little old lady. Memories.

I remember listening to 909 on the radio at a friends house and them saying that we were losing 1-0 against someone, Bristol City or Barnsley maybe and me saying to my mate, that we would probably still win 4-1 ... and we did, it was just that kind of season when everything went for us.
