To be fair benteke has six assists in the last 9 goals we have scored so he is contributing just no where near what he was last season.

Logically, that should happen anyway as the vast majority of goals all round are assisted in the part of the pitch that Christian operates in when Palace are on the attack. And tbf if he wasn't assisting then his use for the team would be totally zero.

We all know those assists should also have a goal tally for himself of eight or nine by now given the amount of chances this season he has had.

But two goals in his last 30 Prem games is beyond dire and cannot be mitigated by other factors.

Opinions seem to be so black and white, ranging from thinking he was awesome to awful.

Surely the middle ground is: he has shown signs of promise and good technique but has to work on quickness of thought and work off the ball. Rather early days for him and he's been thrown in a little earlier than he might have been but there is certainly potential.

He was good first half, not so in second half where he lost the ball every time. He definitely has potential just not quite Upto this level at the moment. Having said that we have no other option

The quickness of thought bit is a very good point. The pace of the premier league to the Danish league must be massive and a real challenge for him. He needs to sharpen up quickly and learn though.

Actually 90% of the comments on here are positive, so he has got off to a reasonable start. But you are right he needs to adjust but has some solid basic qualities.

Simply not true.. you could play 451 (we should be).

I appreciate we have to paint Roy as the manager doing it with a squad of 11 players and a handful of sunday league substitutes so we don't face up to the fact he is well past his managerial best.

Players take time to bed in. Jedinak was atrocious when he first joined. Sorloth has battled well against the defences of two of the best teams in the league. I like that he’s two footed. Convinced he’ll come good but can see us going back to one upfront when players come back from injury.

Sorloth does show promise but we should have got someone in who would hit the track running .

How anyone could say he was good in the air last night is astounding.
Both in the first and the second half he was constantly bringing the ball down, finding space and laying off the ball to other players, in particular Schlupp and PVA, and he also fed Benteke several times.

I wouldn't say his heading was first class, but he gave Benteke respite from pressuring their defenders and Benteke had one of his most effective games of recent as he had someone upfront with him.

He was also able to run with the ball without get pushed off it every time

I can't wait to see him interacting with both Zaha and Cabaye (or even RLC even we ever see him again)

Not the finished product, No. But he'll get better pretty quickly IMV. He's the sort of player we need in the team if we are to really progress and not rely on Zaha's magic.

I'd love to see him alongside a fully fit (inc match fit) Wickham.

Has impressed me, shows lots of desire and is very strong. Not like the the other waste of space playing alongside him. If anything Sorloth is trying too hard, chases everything and tired towards the end. When Wilf comes back would drop CB and play Sorloth up top on his own.

Sorloth and (the home grown) Wan-Bissaka are the bright spots from a very, very poor January window.

Look who we got in last January, they all came straight into the side as soon as they were able. Rakip should have been good enough to come on last night...that Roy didn't think so speaks volumes (in the same way that he stopped Lee from leaving on loan, but doesn't want to play him other than in desperation)

He's got potential, but I can't believe it when the club said he was top of their list. Potential is not what was required in the January window.

Had he have turned left to open up the goal but also teh lay-off into the box, rtaher than right to take on a left footed tight angle shot, he may have been teh man to secure the victory.

Fine margins and he will continue to learn. 2 of the top 6 at home and an away game at one of the hardest places to get points this season is not a fair assessment. Maybe wait and see how he does against Huddersfield and in those last 6 games to judge him.

If i am being honest currently he does not stand out as anything special but he does show promise to his game and will improve, also lets not forget he is new to the premiership, coming from a lesser league but also into a struggling team and playing alongside a forward completely short in confidence does not help.
I would say he is being groomed mainly for Next season in mind possibly as reserve striker initially, also possibly cashing in with Benteke being sold and Connor Wickham if fully fit as First choice striker, especially if we are in the championship.

The way I look at it is that if we'd payed that money for a 22yo Championship striker who had 15 goals and 11 assists or whatever it was for this season, then it would be considered a fair punt to see if he could do it in the PL. I see good signs with him, he needs Wilf and Townsend either side of him to really kick him on.

Supporters of all football clubs enjoy picking over the bone but in truth Sorloth can only seriously judged next season. He was signed in the Norwegian close season and that is hardly a top league.
He will need time to adapt to the speed of the game and more importantly reading it.
