Spectacular work by southern this evening. I work near London bridge and live in oxted. Owing to the landslip, the only way to get near oxted is to go to redhill and get a bus. Are there any direct trains from London bridge to redhill? Of course not. How hard do they have to make it for people to get home for the thousands of us working in the City?

Ended up getting the train to caterham and paying £12 for a cab home. Two hour journey home is not what you want after a 13 hour working day...

The worst thing about their reaction to delays is a lack of pragmatism.

I've got no sympathy for commuters whatsoever. The railways were privatised to give customers more choice and provide competition. If Southern are providing a shit service why not use ScotRail or First Great Western? Oh.....

0740 Reigate - London bridge 22 mins late this morning.

Didn't realise that you could swap national rail vouchers collected for late and cancelled services for cash at any ticket office. Changed up six months worth of vouchers yesterday to re-charge my wallet.

Had to laugh when we get to Purley this morning and the driver exhorted us to 'remain seated' whilst they attach the trains - chance would be a fine thing!

It's a busy line anyway, but this week it's busier on account of picking up some of the slack from the Oxted line closure.

which road do you live on, it does seem to be more cars about recently, as for Chipstead Valley road that is made worse by idiot parents at the primary school we always park on ST Andrews and walk to the school ( and even that is being lazy as we are only on the mount and its approx a mile walk).

It is only going to get worse with Cane Hill being built on but the council won't worry about that until the problems get worse and not sure what can be done about capacity on trains other than to reopen Coulsdon North and stop some of the fast trains

This morning Southern cancelled a London Bridge bound train formed of 12 carriages - by terminating it at East Croydon. The busy train then emptied onto platform 2. Those Carriages then formed a Brighton Service, two out of the next three London Bridge Trains were from the Oxted line and therefore already cancelled. The next two trains were already full, but only formed of 8 carriages. So you had grossly overcrowded platform and they took the longest train out of service in favour of the ones with only 8 carriages. There were arguments and punch-ups galore amongst the commuters who were platform hopping trying to get a train to London Bridge. All the while the original 12 carriage London Bridge train was sat with about 8 people on it awaiting clearance to leave for Brighton.

Then due to immensely over crowded and short trains, an emergency chord was pulled at Honor Oak Park - therefore delaying the line by twenty mins.

It is ridiculous - their incompetence is off the scale.... and it is DAY AFTER DAY.

Which is why I mentioned pragmatism earlier. There is little logic to their decisions.

You can only swap some of them for cash.
Service today has been ******* abysmal. They're so bad that one of their staff at East Croydon said she is embarrassed by them.

If someone is taken ill on a train the worst thing to do is pull the chord - it obliges the train to stop. The best thing is to contact the conductor (if there is one) or dial 999.
