one glaringly obvious reason is not sacking pardew a long time sooner than they did . That is unfortunately, and ultimately, the boards fault . All the other stuff re season tickets etc, has no bearing on the eleven men failing miserably on the pitch. I also think that players like cabaye and townsend and even benteke, being bought in on lucrative contracts, have certainly affected that palace never say die attitude . We are completely unrecognisable , both in spirit and commitment . The crowd reaction last night , tho unpleasant to witness, was hardly a shock given the patience we have shown for far too long under pardew . The rot has set further than we thought.

Its not as if we weren't warned by the Geordies - everyone failed to listen that was the first and most costly mistake - hindsight is a great thing but to allow the last year to develop with out any remedy is the disaster that confronts everyone at the club

Now radical surgery is required in my view to sweep away the past as fast as possible - get rid of all Pardew coaches and staff - refresh as many players as is possible - give BFS what he wants and cross every finger we have

Stop all the pretence - go back to basics - the lights and the nonsense

We've been jumping from crisis to crisis in the PL and we've always ultimately done ok out of it. On the pitch at least.

Our first transfer window was pretty disastrous
Holloway out of his depth (Pulis to the rescue)
Pulis leaving on the eve of the season opener
Appointing Warnock (Pardew to the rescue)

When we finally tried to add some stability by keeping a manager long-term, it went wrong. We've constantly been in a state of flux, fighting fires in a desperate bid to stay up. As such, we've never focused on long-term priorities. Everything is about maximising revenue now. Our constant focus on getting a first team to stay in the division has been to the detriment of everything else.

There's little evidence of a consistent way of playing that we can filter through the club, from academy to recruitment. There's been no improvement to fans' facilities. We don't have PL training facilities. Our academy has been shamefully neglected. We don't appear to look at anything in our transfers other than 'pedigree' these days.

In short, everything is now catching up and overwhelming us. Everything needs urgent attention but in truth we may not be far from square one on any of the issues. And once again all focus will need to be on the first team. It feels like we should have been working relentlessly behind the scenes to strengthen the club at all levels so that playing crises can be absorbed and overcome.

This.

In more detail Pardew was paying new players more money to come here than the current set of grafters we had in place. It would always cause a bit of a problem particularly when you bring in the biggest mercenaries going like Adebayor. The spirit slowly got sucked out of the squad over a period of time, this hasn't all happened since Allardyce arrived.

What we need is to give Allardyce support vocally to allow him to rebuild the squad with some character, spirit, passion and a bit of fight. I think that's all the average Palace fan asks for. He'll sign hungry players like he's done in previous times like Cresswell or the elderly experienced players he'll make sure they can serve a purpose. Pardew seemed to allow Cabaye to have this attitude on the pitch where he had the freedom to do as he wanted taking the set pieces etc.

I think the best thing the club can do is learn a big lesson from this. We need to go back to basics and assemble a squad similarly to what Freedman done of players with not just good ability but character too. It's essential. Make sure the plates are paid evenly and their worth. Cabaye earning £80k+ while others earning half that was always going to upset the apple cart slightly even if it has t been expressed publically.

I agree largely, but the criticism is not so much in selling players that either we had too good an offer to refuse (Bolasie, Jedi) or were probably on the decline (Speroni, Murray) BUT in failing to replace their characters adequately.

We've arguably acquired more technically talented players (on paper) than we sold, but without a tenth of the spirit it is a regression in terms of what output you get from them.

Hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard....

See Bournemouth's and Harry Arter for example vs Cabaye.

Ultimately nobody taking responsibility early on, accepting we were in trouble and taking action to correct the mistakes.

We look rudderless, I hope we bring in 3 or 4 new players this window.

For me it's all about the lack of a well built squad.

Ins and Outs -

We sold Jedinak and yet we do not have a replacement midfield enforcer that we desperately need.

We sold Gayle and Murray. Gayle would be a great option alongside Benteke. Murray would have been good back up and influence.

We sold Bolasie. He was always my favourite player despite his end-product. He was exciting, he'd get the ball down the other end in a flash and he was a massive threat which teams had to often double up on. He could also play on the left.

We got Townsend. Excited at the time. Didn't realise how wrong i'd be. Ineffective, looks disinterested. Against Arsenal he looked like he was under orders to play with his back to goal in the first half. Either that or he is simply not as good as people thought. Can't play on the left.

We got Benteke. Was well pleased with this. Always dreamed of a player like tekkers leading the line. BUT - playing with decent crossing wingers or alongside a poacher like Gayle. He gets isolated and isn't massively bothered about defensive responsibilities.

We got Tomkins. Jury is still out. Early enthusiasm has waned. But to be honest, i don't think any of our defenders four have played well for months.

Then you look at the others we've got - Sako (backup at best), Cabaye (massive disappointment, but still unsure what his role is meant to be), Mutch (disaster), Kelly (not a LB), Campbell (enthusiastic but barely Champ level).

Then the huge injury list - Souare (our only LB), Wickham (was hoping he would improve this year), Jimmy Mac (massive loss to the team's drive), Remy (no idea), Mandanda (high hopes, looks like he wants out already), now Benteke our only real goal threat.

Puncheon is not an AM player, and i've been disappointed with him for ages. I'd honestly rather we played Cabaye there and Punch on the wing as cover. Ward is getting exposed regularly against pacey players. Zaha is off for weeks. Ledley was never a first team player. Chungy looked like he cared against Arsenal - should get a chance soon i reckon, but how far can he go? Flamini - legs have gone.

I had optimism. It has been slowly eroded to pessimism. I can't see how the current squad will escape relegation i'm afraid, it looks paper thin.

I'd say we need improvement in -

LB
RB
Possibly still CB
DM
CM
LW
RW
CF

Scary thought isn't it.

A load of stuff happened all at once.

Palace had a great run which culminated in Donner and Blitzen arriving from the US and Pardew making overtures about being England manager. Oh and Pardew was also outed for having an extra-marital affair in a tabloid.

From that point onwards we seem to have been in a tailspin. Poor football, a lack of focus on fitness, promising signings that haven't flourished, the dismantling of the core team.

Whatever this transition is supposed to be, whether it's forwards or backwards, it needs to happen soon.

Bring back Ramage and Delaney at the back.
Townsend and Kelly should be embarrassed to collect their wages.

We all knew this would happen so why are we all surprised? Its the Premershit disease. We think we need bigger star players, the club starts becoming a brand and we sell to investors. Arent we getting what we deserve?

Parish is getting what he deserves , the fans well 90% of them could see this coming. And the fans will be left with the false promises again in the championship

For me it was the start of last season is where it started going wrong. We were winning games but looked disjointed and not particularly good doing it. At the time we all thought "we're winning games when we're not playing great so when the team clicks it will be fantastic". Unfortunately we went from playing ok and grinding out victories to playing average and not grinding out results and then the rest is well known.

It was losing Bolasie which was the problem. Not losing as in selling him as such, nor his injury problem at the start of last year but rather the start of last season when he didn't look the same player; he lost that carefree attitude, often walking around the field looking moody and disinterested unless someone passed to his feet, he didn't seem to want to run and chase like he had in previous seasons, only making an effort in little spurts and generally didn't look like he was enjoying his game. That had an effect on our performances which slowly grew worse and then losing him to injury against Stoke put us into a tailspin which we haven't really recovered from.

The knock on effect of it all is that we still play a system reliant on both winger's excellence but only Wilf is performing to standard. It is no surprise that we looked better against Swansea after Sako came on because we suddenly had a presence on both wings. Townsend is just a powderpuff player.

Seven reasons for me -
1. A lack of fitness - we are worse than we were under Kember;
2. Pardew's inability to see where things are going wrong;
3. The wafer thin squad that could only cope with a handful of injuries - we currently have 9, including several long term ones - particularly failing to get another left back;
4. Poor scouting - any half decent scouting system would have realised that neither Townsend nor Tomkins were what we needed, they would also be coming up with unknown gems from other leagues - there has been no one since Souare;
5. Sticking with Pardew for far too long – it is making Allardyce’s job so much harder now;
6. Poor motivation – different players need different things to motivate and encourage them – some money, some shouting at, some really clear instructions, some positive feedback and encouragement etc. – it seems we have too many underperforming, disinterested looking players – it seems that behind the scenes we aren’t very good at getting the best out of our squad; and
7. Jobs for the boys – we have for far too long looked to coaches with a Palace past – we have to get the best people, not necessarily people who played in red and blue – goalkeeping and defence seem the obvious ones here.

We are completely unrecognisable , both in spirit and commitment . The crowd reaction last night , tho unpleasant to witness, was hardly a shock given the patience we have shown for far too long under pardew . The rot has set further than we thought.
Agreed. Pardew should have gone sooner.

The rot has defiantly set in further than we thought.
However in hindsight, a year of losing and disorganisation on and off the field, it's no wonder.

It will take an amazing January window and BFS expertise to turn this lot around.

This. The most frustrating thing is that this is NOT hindsight. We all knew it was happening months ago. I relate it to when you're in a relationship (pardew and parish) and all your mates are telling you she's not right for you, but you're so involved and in love you can't see it yourself. Until it's too late.
