Is the BBS not an area of debate? hence why you along with many others contribute and involve in discussions.
But i see where you are coming from and yes the time to form judgement is Febuary 1st, we have been very fortunate to have "got away with it" in not making any signings to date.

Fire=st things first but........

This is not a new thought really but I am s*itting myself as I wonder how we can cope with next summers transfer requirements. With is it 10 contracts? not renewed yet and them being approachable by month end or is it now? I don’t see how we cope with STCC and bringing in and or renewing that many players. Our injury crisis means we need reinforcements now and short term fixes unless all loans will still be here and they are not the same beast. Scary.

The club have this habit of sorting out contracts and not announcing it. Obviously they announced Wilf's new deal but only to warn off bidders.

To put into perspective the size of the task ahead, the only first team players currently in contract past the summer are pva, schlupp, souare, tomkins, dann, sakho, kelly, luka, mutch, punch, riedewald, townsend, wilf, benteke and wickham. Thats 15 players, of which 4 are out long term injured, 1 who probably isnt PL quality anymore following a car crash, and 1 who probably never was. So 9, plus any who can step up from the 'development' HA! squad.

Yep, thatís why I am *hitting myself. That would be bad enough, but if we bring in older expensive players in Jan to get us safe ( Ulloa etc) they are likely to be Julyís deadwood and we will be stuck with them for 2 or 3 years. More and more I understand why Hull brought in so many overseas loans last year, (albeit it didnít work in the end).

Surely it makes sense for us to know what league we will be in before dishing out sizeable contracts?

There are exceptions, I would want James McArthur is either league for example. Ditto Joel Ward.

Isnt that what relegation release clauses are supposed to be for though. We are never going to know that we will be safe for the 3 year duration of a players contract. Its just never going to happen.

Yeah, personally quite excited by players like rakip and yakkety yak. Nobody really knows them and dougie shines at these sort of deals. Hope we get a squad full of them plus somebody guaranteed to bang it in the net on a regular basis like Alcacer. We need to be busy in both windows and ruthless in the summer one.

It does make sense but thatís akin to knowing the result of a horse race before placing your bet isnít it? I.e. other clubs can offer them pre-contracts. I am not meaning be as sarcastic as it sounds, but couldnít think of a better example at min.

I think I am concerned about three things:

- The jan season savers screwing up next years wholesale rebuild
- The out of contract players we want to keep walking or making the rebuild even harder
- just coping with the squad rebuild next year within STCC and budget constraints with todayís crazy markets

Toughie.
