Least they dont often have to wear their away kit - wonder what that is like?!

Yep me to, though I fear that this could be the first league loss of season. We are playing very well, full of confidence, dominating every home match and averaging 3 or so goals at Hayes Lane every other week.

Confused, well the reason I think we might lose is because Goldberg got manager of the month this week.

BROOOOOOOM!

Well 800 people turned up to watch Bromley comfortably win 2-0 vs East Thurrock today.

The match however will be remembered for a very very serious injury to the East Thurrock keeper after he was caught in the head by a boot and had a major fit the pitch. He recieved attention from Paramedics for 15 mins on the pitch before being taken to hospital.

Seeing something like that on the pitch at close quarters really puts things like sport in perspective.

Full report to follow later.

I've seen on the videos they have an ambulance there theses day up in the corner, which is good to see. Not sure they used to have one there in my days of going to Bromley 20+ years ago. Sadly it sounds like it was needed today, and a case of new regulations coming in useful to say the least.

Nice turn out anyway, and now for the big one next week in The Cup.

Another decent display from Bromley, when they get it down and pass the ball they've looked a class above in the games I've been to this season.

How did Boot miss his hat-trick with the open goal?

It was very worrying for a while with the Thurrock keeper, he was laying there fitting for a long time. Apparently Blackman caught him in the head with his shin pad. I've never seen an ambulance drive onto the pitch during a game before and hope I never have to see an injury that requires it again.
The ref got a bit whistle happy after the restart and I'm pretty sure he blew up early too.

Brief update from the official site regarding Jamie Riley their keeper.

Bromley 2 - 0 East Thurrock United - A brace from Tony Boot ensures Bromley's great start to the season continues but the victory at Hayes Lane is somewhat overshadowed by an injury to the visitors' goalkeeper, Jamie Riley. Jamie has had various tests and scans in hospital, which have all had good results but is being kept in overnight as a precaution.

No they don't, it was 15 mins before the ambulance arrived.

Glad to see their keeper is OK but it was a bit scary for a while.

The crowd was boosted by a large Palace following and the England match on afterwards.

They have a St. John's vehicle parked in one corner at every game. I don't think it's a proper ambulance, more like a painted up people carrier that they travel to the ground in.

With regards to the match the most pleasing thing for me was the attendance, to get 800 at Hayes Lane when ETUFC brought only a dozen fans was superb, if we had played Margate, Slough or any of the "medium supported teams" there would have been over 950-1000 there, a great effort as it's normally only AFC that get crowds in four figures.

Credit were credit is due, Goldberg and the Bromley Chairman have realised that it is the fantastic facilities as well as good football that attracts the crowd.

Hopefully we can provide a shock result against Hayes in the FA Cup (currently 18th in the Conference South, two wins in 12 matches) and get a bumper crowd in the 4th Qualifying Round at Hayes Lane - Oxford United anyone?!

These International weekends are proving a Godsend to non-league teams. That coupled with the fact you can watch the England game in the bar afterwards is working well.

Bromley's fixture list has also been kind in this regard, and also at home when Palace and Charlton have been away on a Saturday.

Always liked going to Bromley with my mates that supported Charlton, Millwall and Arsenal. It made a nice change from us bickering at each other, and to have a common cause, and an excuse to drink together in the bar there during the game.

Match report from yesterday, thanks to Bromley Results Blog.

Bromley 2 East Thurrock United 0 – League - 07/10/06

Bromley consolidated their position at the top of Ryman League Premier Division with a comfortable 2-0 win on Saturday in front of over 800 people, but the shine was taken off the occasion by a serious injury to East Thurrock’s keeper Jamie Riley.

Bromley lined up 4-4-2 and took a while to settle in to their new formation, East Thurrock had the first chance of the game when Lee Burns shot wide. The Ravens finally built up some momentum and pushed their Essex based visitors back. Donal O’Sullivan had a back post header from a corner saved and soon after Nic McDonnell shot straight at Riley when one on one.

Barry Moore saw his long range effort saved by Riley and then had a header cleared off the line by Lee Williams. McDonnell powered into the box but couldn’t find the well placed Tony Boot with his pass as the Bromley pressure continued. East Thurrock occasionally threatened on the break but going into the half Sam Wood and O’Sullivan both went close and there was a penalty shout for a foul on McDonnell, but it remained scoreless.

The second half saw Bromley continue to attack and with their first chance Boot made it 1-0 on 48mins with a powerful run into the box and good finish under Riley. The victory was then pretty much sealed 4misn later when McDonnell broke into the area and played in Boot who crashed the ball home from 6yards for 2-0. The Ravens kept looking for more goals McDonnell had an effort saved and there was a penalty shout for a foul on Wood, which Ref Gosling turned down.

Wing wizard Kirk Watts had to goof after a bad foul, but Wood continued the threat down the left and he tested Riley from a tight angle while Boot was standing open and looking for his hatrick.

Then with 15mins to go came the injury to Riley, who had played for Bromley on loan from Millwall a couple of years earlier. Peter Adeniyi crossed from the right and Lloyd Blackman collided with Riley as they challenged for the cross, with Boot firing the lose ball wide. Riley was obviously in need of urgent attention with a head injury and there was a lengthy delay as he received treatment from the physios, St John’s and Paramedics before he was taken away in an ambulance.

The final few minutes were played out in a subdued atmosphere Bunn hit the post for the visitors from a free kick and Steve Harrison shot just wide for The Rocks, but the game ended with no more goals and with most peoples minds on the health of Jamie Riley.

Quote for the game, ‘I’d rather lose than have that happen.’ – Mikey.

Bromley: Walker, Corneille, Wood, O’Sullivan, Duku, Bowry, Adeniyi, Moore, Watts, McDonnell, Boot. Subs: Osborn, Blackman, Young, Stone, Henriques.

Damn it I missed that, anything interesting?

Big match tomorrow in The FA Cup away at Hayes, bearing in mind they have only won twice this year in the Conference South and we are sitting clear at the top of the Ryman Premier the league below. Be great if Bromley could make it to the 4th Qualifying round then to the 1st round proper.

"The London Paper"

Yesterdays “The London Paper”

FROM THE BOARDROOM TO THE BOOTROOM

When Mark Goldberg went bankrupt after blowing £40 million in just eight months at Crystal Palace, it would have been little surprise if he wanted nothing to do with football again. But with the aid of his brother-in-law, the former computer tycoon swapped his shirt and tie for a tracksuit in the summer to become coach of Ryman Premier division side Bromley FC. To the surprise of many – but not himself – Goldberg was recently awarded the manager of the month award after leading his side to the top of the table in a ten match unbeaten start to the season.

Bromley’s fine start to the campaign helps justify Goldberg’s controversial appointment by club chairman Jerry Dolke who, rather conveniently is Goldberg’s brother in law. Previously, the manager’s role had been shared between George Wakeling and Billy Smith, who took the club into the premier division, and Goldbergs appointment was met with understandable accusations of nepotism.

Despite this controversial start to his managerial career, Goldberg is clearly relishing being back in the game and is looking forward to his side’s FA Cup third qualifying round against Hayes this weekend.

“Over the last five years I’ve been helping the youth system at Bromley and that came about because I wanted my son’s team, which was the under 9’s and is now the under 14’s. We won 5 trophies in five years so I’ve been practising on my son’s team. Last year we had not such a good run during the course of the season. Jerry and myself started to interview new managers and after seeing two or three applicants I turned to Jerry and said, “Why don’t I just do it myself?”
“It’s a big gamble for Jerry to take simply because I’m his brother in law – he must have believed in me. I’ve not been silly, I’ve brought in expertise around me. We’ve prepared very well this season and our aim this season is promotion – we want to get to the play-offs at least. Reaching the first round of the Cup would mean a lot commercially for the club.”

Goldberg is, of course still remembered for his ill –fated tenure as Crystal Palace chairman in 1998-1999 when he bought the club from Ron Noades for £22.8 million but not Selhurst Park. Noades kept hold of the freehold when Simon Jordan bought the club from Goldberg and it was only earlier this week that Jordan bought the freehold from Noades. Goldberg added: “If I had been able to buy the freehold I would have done. Ron’s ambition now is to grow his golf empire but when I was involved with him, keeping the freehold enabled him to keep control of the club. It may be that Simon didn’t have to go through a third party, he thought he had to. According to Ron, he would have sold it to him anyway"
