Bromley 3 Harrow Borough 2 – League - 17/10/06

Bromley were nearly made to pay for a host of missed chances when after dominating the game for over 75mins they ended up hanging on in injury time against Harrow at Hayes lane on Tuesday night.
Bromley started well Sam Wood set up Adrian Stone who had his shot saved by Kieran Jimmy, Tony Boot shot over and Wood hit a free kick just wide.

The Ravens attacking play finally paid off on 16mins when Barry Moore crossed for Simon Osborn to head home from 6yards out to make it 1-0. Harrow then had a spell of pressure but Bromley’s defence were equal to the task and then pushed for more goals. Osborn had a shot saved, before Boot won a penalty forcing a hand ball by Rickey Browne. Boot stepped up to take the spot kick but it was comfortably saved by Jimmy.

The Ravens continued to press going into the break and from a corner Boot headed against the bar and Tutu Henriques had a powerful header saved on the line.

Despite losing O’Sullivan due to injury Bromley started the second half in perfect style when Wood cut in from the left and hit a low shot which Jimmy let slip though his hands for 2-0 on 47mins. Walker made two good saves as Harrow rallied, but it was the home side who dominated the attacking play with the all action Wood shooting narrowly wide on two occasions and just over on another.

The third goal finally came on 68mins when a great ball by sub Bobby Bowry found Boot who turned and crashed the ball home from 6yards out. Wood went close again and sub Kirk Watts set Boot up who fired just wide. Boot & Stone nearly combined for a fourth but Jimmy just managed to smother the ball. Boot them went off inured and Bromley were forced to play the final 15mins with ten men as they had made all three substitutions.

Harrow grabbed one back on 79mins when Elliot Onochie finished off a great run with a quality finish and the visitors grew in confidence as they sensed an unlikely point, Albert Adomah fired just over and then there were a few scrambles around the box before on 89mins it was 3-2 when Onochie curled in a brilliant free kick from 30yards out. Bromley managed to settle and run the clock out to hold on for all three points, but it should have been much more comfortable.

Bromley: Walker, Corneille, Wood, O’Sullivan, Henriques, Duku, Adeniyi, Moore, Osborn, Stone, Boot.
Subs: Watts, Bowry, Fieldwick, McDonnell, Young.

Going to watch Bromley is a joy at the moment, I look forward to my next visit. Excellent football, goals a plenty and a generally good atmosphere around the place make 8 quid on the gate real value for money.

From "The Bromley Times"

Goldberg desperate for Rock solid Trophy show
19 October 2006

There is no let up in Bromley's search for silverware this weekend when East Thurrock visit Hayes Lane in the FA Trophy, writes Paul Green.

The Lillies have already enjoyed a memorable FA Cup campaign to date and discovered on Monday they will visit Conference club Grays in the final qualifying round after last weekend's 3-1 win at Hayes.

However, attention now turns to non-league's premier knockout competition with Bromley keen to repeat their recent 2-0 victory over this Saturday's opponents.

Manager Mark Goldberg said: "The FA Trophy is important commercially to the club and we fancy our chances of reaching the latter stages.

"We played East Thurrock a couple of weeks ago and I think we've got the measure of them and they will undoubtedly think the same of us. It will ultimately come down to who wants it more on the day."

Goldberg has the luxury of a fully fit squad available for selection for almost the first time this season - a feat he puts down to the hard work of club physio Andre Vincent.

"Andre deserves great credit for that and all the plaudits," added the boss.

The victory at Conference South side Hayes was particularly satisfying for the manager and he singled out two-goal star Nic McDonnell for special praise.

Goldberg explained: "It was probably one of Nic's best performances in a Bromley shirt. He took his two goals extremely well, but what also pleased me was his all round level of fitness which was tremendous."

The prospect of a trip to big spenders Grays does not worry Goldberg in the slightest and he can't wait for Saturday week's clash.

He added: "I was initially disappointed not to get a home draw but now the game at Grays is something I'm looking at favourably.

"It's a chance to test ourselves against opposition from a higher level and it will be a great challenge."

aah yes the mighty Whitstable Town , I cant believe I forgot them.

Be interesting to see what team Mark and Murray put out today to face East Thurrock United in the FA Trophy. The management team relised that Hayes were having us watched in the last league fixture, before the FA Cup tie so we changed formation. I guess this may be the case today with the big trip to Grays next weekend.

BROOOOOM!

Apparently there's a small interview with Goldberg in 442 this month in the non league section. Interviews in 4-4-2, the london paper, loads of press coverage, manager of the month awards, FA cup runs, undefeated in the league, a new bar! when will all this madness end??? (administration anyone?!!)

Today's result: 6-3 to Bromley

Palace connections were that Simon Osborn played 90 minutes, quiet but generally efficient and then got booked for an off the ball incident which only the ref saw near the end. Bobby Bowry and Gareth Williams both came on as subs, with Bowry putting Williams away down the left half way through the second half, a step-over took him past the defender and his shot was smashed in from an acute angle to make it 4-2. He then completed a hat-trick in about 10 minutes with a couple of shots from the edge of the area.

Great stuff !

Love the Bromley FC website too. Better than the Palace one.

Really like the 5 minute highlights from recent games.

Keep it up Bromley.

I think I'll have to get myself down to Hayes Lane pdq - coincidentally my wife has worked right next door to the ground for over 20 years
