Apparently Morocco is leading the preferences at the moment.

That sounds ridiculous but since the way they changed the voting process, the quality of the bid might not matter. (Not that that mattered before) Instead of a small committee doing the voting, every national federation gets one vote:

AFC; 46 voting members
CAF; 54 voting members
CONCACAF; 35 voting members
CONMEBOL; 10 voting members
OFC; 11 voting members
UEFA; 55 voting members

I think we can assume that all African countries vote for Morocco and all CONCACAF countries vote for the North American bid. Then if Asia votes for Morocco and Europe and South America vote for the N.A. bid, the vote is 100-100 and it all comes down to Oceania.

Looking at the fan culture they have in their three major sports, it'll take them a very long time to get football fan culture. I'll laugh at stuff like this, but all that really matters is that they're enjoying the game itself, that's something to be celebrated.

Its very misleading to say Gillette Stadium is in Boston. Its like saying Selhurst Park is Crawley.

From wiki
According to a report published by*ESPN, the Morocco's bid has the support of much of Asia and South America as well as Africa, which would put it over the 104 votes needed to host*2026 FIFA World Cup.

I'm pretty sure that was the same report that said that the joint bid was in trouble because everybody was pissed at Trump. But every rational person realizes that he won't be President in 2026. (Infowars notwithstanding)

It will all be about the money (in their pockets). One way or another.

I went to a match in Casablanca a few years back. Chaotic and moderately scary. Not quite Turkey/Serbi levels but pretty interesting. Anyway, it was a lovely birthday treat for the wife.

The "wall" will probably be up though.
You seriously underestimate the Latino antipathy to the US.
And the vote will be when POTUS Trump is very much still in place.

Not surprised only 2 bids given the bent voting process. I thought the yanks would only bid again given assurance after them and the Aussies were sticthed up in the Qatar bid.

Talk in the press of $25bn investment by European, American and Asian investors (although no Chinese or Saudis) in a 48 team world cup and an expanded league of nations. The net of this would be:

There is no way that the world cup will be held in England in the foreseeable future and
a potential punch up between the domestic leagues, particularly in Europe and FIFA.

A UK and Ireland bid would be great.

There are venues in England, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland and the Republic are all pretty much "World Cup ready".

It will never happen because the home countries want to retain their status and shows why FIFA needs to change so we don't get another Qatar.
