Glad Sam has put this to bed! Utterly ridiculous reporting on him this week!

I'd start following another sport if I were you. As you know nothing about this one.

Clearly a confidence player, who thrives on good service, with 8 goals already, you could see we could potentially have a 20 goal a season man on our hands.

I'm glad he's not going, would be folly.

At fault for two goals at Swansea cost us 3 points, missed penalties against west ham and waftford, at least 4 points probably 6. Woeful against Chelsea, man utd, Swansea home and away, watford and hull. Doesn't take responsibility for marking at our set pieces costing us goals on several occasions, distinct lack of interest or any sort of movement in past 6-8 matches. Do I expect more from a 30 million pound 144,000 a week striker. Yes. Try watching the match and see what his total contribution or non contribution has been for all bar a handful of games, you may learn something about football.

You're talking rubbish. His contribution has been better than most of our team this season. The obvious stat is the goals but the flick-ons and hold up play has also been key.

It doesn't matter how good (or expensive) somebody is, they can't do it all on their own. It's not hard for a group of premier league defenders to crowd out a striker when the ball is hoofed up the field and there's no teammates within 20-30 yards of him.

The lack of confidence, inventiveness and belief the rest of our team has shown over the last few games has been disgraceful. You can't single out one player just because he cost more than the rest. You do realise there's a reason he was valued at 30m in the first place don't you? He's more than capable at this level which is more than can be said for a few others.

I expect my striker too:
1. Score goals
2. Work defences
3. Bring others into play

At this point in time:
1. He is our top scorer and the best striker we have had for years by some distance
2. He is a handful but too often the ball is played up to his forehead or above where all he can do is flick it on to nobody. The closing down aspect is a misnomer for me. The way we are set up it is not something we want as it drags everyone else out of position
3. CB regularly brings others into play WHEN they get close enough. He links up the play and is very effective

Moaning about marking at set pieces is fair enough but not what you sign a 30 million striker for. Penalties are also fair enough but argument is he shouldn't be taking them considering his technique for them specifically doesn't look great. Cabaye or Puncheon should be in my opinion

Wow. Some interesting views there. Firstly...I am not sure that benteke was bought for his ability to defend corners. How about looking at why palace are conceding so many corners and why our GK looks incredibly nervous whenever the comes into the box from a corner.

This lack of movement and interest argument is frustrating. Did you watch any of the games? Watford away...won the penalty himself chasing down a back pass, Swansea home....should have had another penalty from chasing down an aimless goal kick. Because he doesn't tear around the pitch like some sort of Headless chicken he is not interested....rubbish.

Then there is the service...at present we have 3 defenders in ward, Kelly and Delaney who whilst have given great service....do not have any confidence on the ball. The results of that are the ball is humped in the general direction of Benteke with a cry of 'deal with that'. Cabaye tries to get the ball from them but they continuously bypass him also. When the ball has got wide to zaha particularly and balls have been put in the box....Benteke has looked very very dangerous. 8 goals in however many games is the best return we have had in the premier league for donkeys years. As it stands this guy is likely to score 16 premier league goals in a poor team...not a bad return huh?

As for learning about football....there are plenty of people who go and watch every game but no dick all about football.

Most expensive striker we've ever had. Doesn't get into Top 10 Palace strikers I've watched in last 43 years at Selhurst. But to be fair, fees are much higher now and he's playing against better defenders than most previous Palace strikers played against seeing as we've not been in top division that much in my time watching.

Talking of CB:-

But ahead of Palace's trip to West Ham, another of Allardyce's former clubs, he said: "Never say never but at the moment he is a Crystal Palace player.

TBH it's early days in terms of comparing him to the rest but I can't remember many arriving and scoring at 1 in 2 quite so soon over that period. I don't think he has been firing on all cylinders yet and look forward to more goals from open play. We have seen flashes with a couple of towering headers but yet to see much of his powerful shooting. It's all there and we just need to get it going but the return has not been a bad one. Can't see why anyone would want him to leave.

I do think he needs to curb the fouling which is giving away possession too often. His elbow is an issue that will attract a red soon although I don't think he is unacceptably aggressive.
