Song memories
What specific memories do certain songs give you? The more weird and bizarre the better. Example:
Ready To Go - Republica - When England drew 0-0 with Italy in Rome in 97 for qualification to World Cup 98. I think Sky Sports were playing this non-stop in the build up programmes and adverts. There She Goes - The La's - A BBC reality programme from around 1996ish about family holiday reps in somewhere like Majorca. Bonus points for Partridge sounding entries. |

Whenever I hear a certain mix of River Deep Mountain High by Erasure, it takes me right back to the Seoul Olympics in 1988, as that was the music the BBC used in the background while scrolling down the medals table.

Listened to Teardrop by Massive Attack on a bus for about an hour on a loop after England lost to Argentina in 1998. Seared into my memory. Think about it whenever I see effigies of David Beckham hanging off lamp-posts.

Depeche Mode - Violator album will forever remind me of queueing overnight in the car park for FA Cup Final tickets. I listened to it on loop.

My youngest’s birthday always reminds me of Johnny Mathis - when a child is born.

That is a tricky one.
Maybe a newly created difficult to categorise forum (DTC) ? |

“Born to be Alive” by Patrick Hernandez (I think) reminds me of being taken to the Wimbledon Men’s Final (Borg vs Tanner) in my youth - thanks to the kindly husband of my Godmother, who used to work as a senior steward at Wimbledon when the only reward the stewards were given were free tickets. In those days the Centre Court had a standing section for those who queued for tickets on the day, and we were sitting in front of that. We got there early and I remember it being played on a radio that someone in the standing section was playing before the stands started filling up.
Bizarre memory, but a very strong one ! |

Live is Life - Opus.
Dancing with 2 girlfriends outside a stall in the Vienna funfair in 1985. We kept dancing, they kept playing it and the people on the ride couldn't get off because they kept the thing going - for about 15 minutes. Happy times. |

Wuthering Heights by Kate Bush in 1978 always reminds me of being really happy and content about something at that time,,,,but for the life of me I’ve never been able to remember what it was that I was so happy and content about!!

Me and a work colleague had bunked off work to go and see Rollins Band at a norf lundun club. (can't remember the name)
We started off drinking around midday. We were sat in the South Bank Centre, chilling, listening to Nat King Coles, "There May be trouble Ahead" We carried on drinking at various establishments during the afternoon, when a few bar people refused to serve us, as we got messy. We got refused entry to the Rollins Band venue, and a skirmish ensued between us and the bouncers. They eventually had to get reinforcements to chuck us out (for which I was a bit grateful). My mate then got involved in a fight with some street-robbers in Trafalgar Square, who ran off into the night. Managed to get a cab home. "There may be trouble ahead" still haunts me Mind you,....I've had some 5hlt evenings too,..... ![]() |
