It's a bit more than the ECB failing to help 'by being a bit more expansionary'; the ECB (in conjunction with the rest of the Troika) systematically crippled the Greek economy, for reasons that I still don't understand.

Moreover the Euro made the south European debt crisis completely unavoidable unless they found some way to recycle the huge surpluses generated by the northern economies back into the south. But they didn't, and never appear to have tried to do so. It looks to me like economic crisis and contraction for the marginal economies of the eurozone has always been inevitable.

What the heck are financial services anyway? We sell algorithms no one understands with the promise of making numbers get bigger.

One of the most high profile names in finance has said that Brexit is going to lead to dramatic economic upheaval which will be bad for most people but good for his multi billion-pound private equity firm.

Guy Hands, chairman of Terra Firma, one of Europe's largest private equity groups, warned that the country will have to get rid of much of its social safety net and may see a 30 per cent decline in wages in real terms in the next 20 years to enable it to compete outside of Europe.

“The slightly sad thing is the people who voted for Brexit aren’t the people who are going to have to make these sacrifices,” Hands said. “That’s not unusual for big, political decisions when people don’t fully analyse what the economic consequences are.”
Project Fear can now predict 20 years into the future. Without being revised. It gets better and better cdm61 getting more and more desperate. I have heard there will be a recession in 75 years, anyone else hear that ??

Not all people who voted Brexit were racist but all racists voted Brexit. There were two separate campaigns as one wanted to fight on an out and out racist angle and one didn't. They were aiming at different voters.

Theresa May’s vision of Britain’s trading relationship with the EU has left trade officials and business executives scratching their heads about how it could work in practice. The British prime minister has confirmed the UK will leave the EU single market but seek market access for certain industries such as cars and aerospace. She also confirmed that Britain would pull out of the EU customs union, but retain a “customs agreement” to remove tariffs and have “frictionless trade”.

Trade experts suggested that it will be very difficult for a sector-specific customs union to be technically, legally and politically achievable. “Every time you try to think about one or two of these pillars, you crash into the third one,” says Samuel Lowe, a London-based trade analyst.

Trump being one of the bosses doing this.

Now, however, the wolf is wearing sheep's clothing and is telling companies not to move abroad or face import taxes and is saying employ local workers.

The pendulum has swung the other way but its so true that had Blair signed up to the opt out clause then we would not be facing brexit at all.

Unemployment went up after 2008 to 8% and stayed there until 2013. That was when the damage was done and people immediately started saying hang on I haven't got a job why are all these east Europeans still coming over?

Another interesting question is why did Cameron choose to have the vote so quickly. He promised it during the next parliament so could have waited until 2018.
Despite there being no evidence that migration has any real affect on wages and unemployment just keep repeating it does. More people means supply and demand goes up. It's also why as populations boomed in the 19th and 20th century you didn't see a world going backwards, but instead making huge advances.

It's just the mark of a moron to blame migration and not austerity.

The EU did not cripple the Greek economy, they ****ed that up themseles. The treatment might not have been the best but they were up shit creek and needed a paddle. The Greeks had to be stopped fom destroying their own economy.

I didn't just blame immigration and not austerity. The periods mentioned are post the 2008 crash. I mentioned that and supported the view of the previous poster. Do I have to outline every single detail in a post.

What I did was explain why people started to feel like they did. We were discussing the rise of UKIP and during this period they saw their highest increase in support.

Its the mark of a moron to not read and understand something or put your own interpretation on something that isn't there.
