Sorry if this has been done before.
Just wondering who you thought ? Recent times : Hughes, Derry, Aki to a point. What do you think ? Sir Geoff Thomas ? Andy Gray ? Let me know

Geoff Thomas was the model of a strong player.

John 'yogi' Hughes was like a fast moving tank on legs
In more recent times I'd say maybe John Humphries - quite the opposite of yogi in every way but always looked like a serene rock in defence

Billy Gilbert was a mean so and so

I put Billy Gilbert down as the past player I would most like in the team now as well. He was a very solid defender but also skilful coming forward so could help to fill two of our weaknesses at the same time. I don't know if he was THE toughest, but agree he is a contender at least.

Gareth Davies - now he was an absolute nutter.
I remember him giving it large to Jamie smith after Dougie scored maybe 1-2 minutes after Jamie Smith had scored for Wolves.

I always think we need a Billy Gilbert in todays team.
He was tough.

I think his reputation got in the way but he was very highly rated in his time. Local boy as well - he went to my old school in Mitcham. It always amused me that in our school reception there was a photo of him as an example of a famous ex-pupil. Not sure he was really an ideal role model! |

When you talk about toughness, that Coppell team had it all the way up the spine - Thorn and Young, Gray and Thomas, and Wright and Bright. I'm sure other teams absolutely dreaded playing us.
