I donít think nicking the odd goal from central midfield is irrelevant. McArthur does it well.

However, Cabaye seems to make everything easier for the team. I often donít notice the man at all, yet Iím sure itís no coincidence that we appear more solid as a unit when he starts. I would definitely keep him on as long as heís not making any crazy demands.

some very good parts to his play but he should take better corners and get a few goals. thank god for Luka who can take a free kick.

On Ward, he has been an excellent servant for the club and has been one of the reasons why Palace have been a Premier League side for so long. We take some of the Premier League quality we're seeing now for granted but this is a player we signed from a relegated Portsmouth side, who made the step up to the Championship diligently, had a direct hand in winning the play-off games, and then became a Premier League regular. It's not an easy thing to do but he did it.

Cabaye is a player that, from the moment we signed him, has been misunderstood. That expectation from some quarters to score goals hasn't changed, despite the fact he's barely ever played in an advanced role for the club. His wages are an issue but it's also clear that he struggles to sustain that intensity for 90 minutes. He's been fantastic under Hodgson though - a real link-up player, utilised in a way that other managers have failed to.
You know more than me but also he loves being about to return to the south coast and he wonít play for Southampton so where does he go? Bournemouth?

Will we be in for Amadou this Summer, or will we let Moyes snaffle him ?
Could have a big bearing on Yohan.

I can understand the clubs reluctance to hand out a 100k a week contract to an ageing cabaye.. but god we will miss him. A real class act. I would like to see another season from him to be honest. Luckily however i am not paying the bills.

As for ward. I think he's only just the required standard and AWB and kelly are either the same or better. So with good wishes if he doesn't fancy the contract offered. Let him go.

Negative again.

The point that weíre making is that Ward still has enough to offer to the squad, and that AW-B isnít perfect either (though he does have the benefit of time ahead of him to learn).

Iím not saying keep Ward out of some loyalty, itís because we have far more pressing areas where we need to strengthen. If Ward goes, then we have to find the transfer fee AND the salary for his replacement. If he stays, itís just the salary and itís someone we know loves the club.

This season has shown you need decent players like Ward and Kelly around the squad. We simply wonít get 20+ superstar players....we canít afford them and great players wonít come to Palace to be just in our squad (they want to be in our top first 11-15). So you fill the final 10 places or so with decent squad guys and youngsters.

I think if we pencilled in AWB as first choice for next season I would be a bit nervous TBH. He obviously has all the raw talent but a lot to learn about defending as part of a (Premier League level) defensive unit. I would hope he gets a good number of games next year but there could even be an argument for him going to a Championship club up until Xmas to 'practice'. The trouble with that is it is only worthwhile if he gets games. If he just sits on the bench then he may as well stay. But relying on him playing first choice just seems a season too early. TBH he didn't mature into the team - Roy was short - and so it's not a shock that he may need more time. What would be bad is if we block off his future path by buying another youngster.

Very much this. I think the reason that so many get so enthused about him is simply that itís so good seeing such talent developing from one of our own. But that alone doesnít make him suitable at this stage for first choice.

I agree. But of course if the Dawson rumour is true we could have an experienced player at both right back/ centre back. So if Ward does leave then as usual we will only be able to assess it once we see who comes in his place.

I think we will miss Cabaye but we have to evolve as a team. Ward has been good but has also been very bad and we can do better as we evolve.Puncheon worries me more, how long does he have left on his contract.
