Poor all round. RLC looks fantastic though.

Long drive back home to North Yorkshire

"Complexity is the refuge of the mediocre" but simplicity is the ultimate sophistication"
The last line from Leonardo da Vinci

So how simple is it to play your best players in their best positions? Pretty easy I'd say.

So Why make something so simple and obvious so complex?

I don't think the re-signing of Sakho is going to stop Riedeweld and Dann giving the ball away on the edge of our box as we pitter patter around our penalty box. Or stop us from conceding the ball so easily in midfield as our two get swamped. Or cover the wide open spaces as our wing backs are caught so far up the pitch they cannot defend. Or provide Benteke with crosses.

Do you?

The answer to your question is in the De Vinci quote.

We had a RWB all pre-season, it was madness that he started today on the bench. No attacking threat down the right hand side and they dominated us on that side instead of us pushing them back. Not helped by having the best player on the pitch wasted out wide when he is excellent in the middle.

No - but it will give the defence a rock to build from, inspirational leadership and a high quality footballer

Everyone blaming the players - Puncheon not good enough, Ward not good enough etc - but I have some sympathy for them. They are being asked to change the system they play for the third time in less than a season. Think how long it took them to adapt to what Allardyce wanted from them. Fact is that employing FDB was a huge gamble unless we're prepared to fork out a huge amount on new players to suit his system. I hope I'm wrong about this but I just don;t get the sense that he is the type of manager who is going to be prepared to compromise in how he wants us to play. Indeed, it may well be the case that there is only one way that he knows how to coach.

These managers must have some outstanding presentations or he set up an xbox but instead of selecting palace he hit Barcelona v Huddersfield 3-4-3 to show Parish and it worked a treat.

Wilf & Townsend are essentially playing as wingers & not part of a three pronged striking force. Benteke looks as though he's playing the lone striker role because they don't get close enough to him, often enough.
Unless we play two central strikers at home, we will continue to struggle to get enough points at home, and we will have to rely on picking up more points away.

None of the back three looked comfortable with the formation. Lose possession (and we do too often) in midfield, and we will get stuffed more often than not. Learn very quickly, or change the system to a flat back four before we get into real trouble.

Only one game, but the Manager needs to adapt to the challenges of the Prem very quickly.

Harsh on an honest player, being asked far too much of by his manager. How many minutes has he had pre-season? Not at all suited for the role, and the fault for his inclusion, and in part, his performance has to lie with De Boer.

Sadly good possibility you are right here along with another contract for Speroni. Punch has been poor for 18 months. His best position should be as a winger but he can't take a decent free kick anymore.

Punch as a winger? He can't tackle and has no pace. The only suitable place for puncheon is the bench.

Jesus wept. I don't know what I find more frustrating; our results or the comments on here.

Yes it's disappointing, yes there are concerns but NO this is not the end of De Boer or Ward or Reidewald or does it make us the worst side in the league or does it mean we'll get beat 9-0 at Anfield.

The least we can do is give de Boer time and trust Parrish to do the right things at the right time as he has demonstrated every year since he took over.

We were abysmal.

One bright spot was Loftus-Cheek. Not keen on this move as the loan will not benefit Palace in the long-run while developing a player for Chelsea, but if the lad is going to play like that every week then I'll admit is is a very good signing.

Fonsu-Mensah not bad - worrying was how poor Ward was in general and Dann in the second half. Zaha typically frustrating, going to ground when thru. Benteke really should bury at least one of those headers.
Loftus Cheek is going to be an amazing player and we should make an offer for him. Sadly thought Dann was coming back on form but today was a horror show. We should have signed a keeper weeks ago if the current Dutch target is who we have been after. However, unless that mess of a five across is sorted a new keeper will be like a cat on a hot tin roof. Depressing is the word

He was once a decent winger but has just gone so off form for over 18 months. There is a reason he has played for so many clubs.
