He's 'terrific', a 'wonderful' pundit. I quite like Waddle, bit of a dinosaur but he shoots from the hip and is a good ranter. Shearer is the uber****, laziness personified. |

I like pundits that do their homework. Simple things like learn the fixtures of the teams. Know the general vibe at a club.
Most pundits are just lazy. Rave about a team one week, say the problems the next. Say the 3 promoted teams will get relegated without any thought. Randomly my favourite pundit is Ray Parlour. |

Martin O'Neill was good on the BBC during whatever world cup it was. He looked like he wanted to smack Alan Hansen the whole time.

Martin Keown annoys me. Probably thinks he's really insightful. I tend to avoid punditry / commentary these days.

They’re all shit. And all ex pros because the average consuming twat just wants to recognise a face rather than hear anything resembling an original or insightful thought.
As footballing ability goes up, the ability to be interesting or speak English beyond a year 6 level go down drastically. Paul Merson is the best of the dull bunch currently as he’s not a posturing, cliche-ridden bloated ego. And quite funny sometimes. Also, Andy Gray & Richard Keys are the best of all time (including all the sexist stuff, just makes them better). Last edited by kark; 01-01-2018 at 03:33 PM. |

The absolute worst commentator imo is Clive Tyldesley. Whenever Ronaldo or his beloved Man Utd are playing he sounds like he's on the verge of exploding. He even managed to make Zaha scoring against Leicester about Man Utd. What a tit.

Danny Murphy and Souness are the best of a poor bunch although I hate to say it Gary Neville also knows what he is talking about
The rest are inarticulate muppets who don't bother to do any research on teams, talk in clichés, use adjectives when they should be using adverbs and don't know what literally means Quite like Steve McManaman as a co-commentor on BT as I think I am listening to Lily Savage

Then you say Merson is the best of a dull bunch! He is a prime example of points 1 and 2. He's full of cliches - such as his views on foreign managers fairly recently - he has nothing insightful or original to say. He is a 'hot take' in human form; shouty man in the pub put on TV. Same goes for Collymore (i see he is 'writing' in the Mirror now). But there is some personality there, unlike Chris Sutton and Michael Owen, even if it's a consequence of being full of cliches and shouting loudly.

The ex players who have never managed or coached to any extent are generally the worst
Absolute bottom of a very long and poor list of ex pro pundits is Steve McManaman it is obvious he is not really interested in the football apart from the money |

He'd be better off being a horse racing pundit, that's where his real passion lies, football is just a sideline
