Klinx, seriously. You pick and choose so blatently. If it's something you're not personally offended by, it's not racist. If there's a sniff of discomfort for you you're bordering on tears of outrage. Choc-ice & coconut are clearly racist terms. Two that don't offend me in the slightest (as I'm half white, so it's factual rather than derogatory for me, although rarely meant as anything other than an insult when tossed in my direction), but racist nonetheless. You can't have your cake and eat it pal.

I mentioned on another thread recently that in Vancouver, a city where more than half the population trace their roots back to Asia, a banana is a common term and is usually not considered offensive. In fact it can be quite complementary when it is used to describe someone who is comfortable in, and sensitive to, both their ethic and mainstream culture.
The reverse term, an egg, is almost always used in a complementary manner. I think a lot of people here are over analyzing what is and what isn't racist. I don't think we are meant to be colour blind. If you refer to someone's race or ethnicity in a manner that is intended to be hurtful or degrading (or indifferent to whether or not it is) then it is racist. Otherwise it is not.

In a similar vein there are many that can't possibly admit that what Ferdinand said was racist, otherwise they'd have to admit that after years of holding up Ferdinand as all that is good against all that is bad represented by Terry, Ferdinand maybe isn't as pure as he's been made out to be.

Whether its offensive or not is not the issue. I'm just surprised that black people allow this sort of language to exist and to use it in effectively trying to stunt and hold back other black people.
Its a bit like coming from a working class background, wanting to actually read a book, shop at Waitrose and stop laughing at your own farts and being called a homosexual for it. The motivation is exactly the same - its peers trying to hold you back. I left Addington High School in 1995, at the height of Britpop and I swear to God, if you were caught listening to, say, Blur, certainly Suede, but even Oasis, you were basically a homosexual.
