Aguero and Higuain are both central strikers and one would play in the middle of that 4-3-3 with one as back up.

So, given that there are 3 options for the wide players in Messi, Dybala and di Maria in the squad, taking Icardi would have meant a 4th and a redundant back-up player.
The point is that Icardi should have been in there instead of Higuain, for the reasons stated in my prior posts.

No Icardi in the Argentina squad

Your reasons are:

Higuain cost them the final in 2014 - by that token, Stuart Pearce should not have gone to Euro 96, having missed a penalty.

He scored less goals - he's not being taken to be the sole provider of goals. He suits the Argentinian formation and tactics better.

Not saying that Icardi shouldn't go, but that he was vying for a position with Dybala, not Higuain.

It’s not just in the 2014 final, Higuain is a regular bottler for Argentina, did it in Copa America finals too. Bit of a difference between missing one penalty like Pearce did, and continually not turning up for 90 minutes like Higuain does. Really don’t get that Dybala point either, he’s an extremely different player to Icardi and Higuain, who are far more comparable. Although the former does have a bit more of a creative side and creates more chances for teammates than the latter.

The point of my original post is that Mauro Icardi is probably THE best and most on form Centre Forward in Europe this season.

It's a joke he hasn't made their squad because Messi is mates with his wife's ex husband. Ok I don't exactly agree with what went on with that situation but... From a football sense Argentina continue to weaken themselves just because of what Messi tells them to do.

Messi or Icardi though. With a player like Messi I dont care which manager you are, you cannot leave the best player ever out of your squad. If he feels he wont work as well alongside somebody like Icardi on a moral ground. That would significant weaken their attack.

If anybody has player power its him and Ronaldo, just too good.
