There needed to be a legitmate option for a left leaning government that really addressed the structural imbalances that drive things and it just never came.

Liberal politics was too blinded by its own bullshit to understand how wealth inequality was manifesting serious social issues and very sensible centre left fiscal ideas were ignored until the right manifested brexit and the left manifested the canary and their ilk

Technocratic politics is entirely to blame for where we are now yet still those who believe in it, because it worked previously in completley different circumstances parade around smug as you like not being able to understand its failures

No no. We understand its failures. I'm not smug about it at all.

I just have no confidence that a Corbyn/McDonnell led government would do better. In fact I believe a Corbyn/McDonnell led govt would be such a disaster that people won't ever elect a Labout govt again.

Sorry to clarify, in the pre Corbyn period. I don't necesarilly think Corbyn would or could be any more of a disaster than May but that is setting the bar millimetres from the ground

Find a young, genuinely progressive left winger with a message of hope and you'd oust Corbyn in weeks

Corbyn should step aside and take a job championing workers rights. He has broadly won the argument in favour of tax increases and more borrowing but IMHO is not the man to implement them. The hard part convincing people that the goodies can be funded just by taxing the rich and corporations will need to be made before the next GE.

Got anyone in mind? Who's the up and coming young leftie that could deliver a socialism that would benefit modestly paid workers and struggling pensioners?

Thanks Nick. Shamefully I had to google it. Looks good re the campaigning, the fact that she isn't a posh public school boy or girl and her mental health role. Shame she's a politics student but never mind.

How can it possibly be worse? This current lot are siphoning off billions whilst everybody else takes it up the arse. We could've recovered from 2008 years back but it was an opportunity for the bastards because they know that their support are all old pensioners unaffected by recession.

So he won you over with his idea and explanation of it but you don't think that he's capable of explaining that to the Treasury?

Are you sure you aren't just an old stick in the mud with grudges, unable to shift your opinion?

The crossover point where people are more likely to vote Tory them to vote Labour is actually in the mid 40s.

I'm assuming you aren't denying he rubbed shoulders with the IRA in the 1980s though

You mean ike Thatcher did, when she went behind closed doors to get the IRA to talk, and then of course Major did a similar thing and eventually this led to the GFA. How disgusting that Corbyn did a similar thing when all the rhetoric in the press was against this, and the DM still is.

The issue with Corbyn was that he was partisan.

Yeah, but a crossover is 50/50, but the old are 70%+, which is my point exactly.

This is an absurd comparison. You aren't thick. You must know that.
