Very few (if any) players of Premiership quality in Norway these days as evidenced by our totally incompetent national team. However scouting the upcoming U21 Championships could be a very good idea for Palace. Norway will be playing Israel, England and Italy and it should give a good indication if there are any bargains to be had here. An England or Italian U21 players will most likely cost millions whereas someone from Norway could be had virtually free.

Nicklas Helenius
To view the link you have to Register or Login Simon Makienok To view the link you have to Register or Login Both are target men and finished a couple of goals behind highly-rated Danish forward Andreas Cornelius. I'm suggesting these two and not Cornelius as a) he's already been suggested and b) these two are a couple of years older and more within our price range (Cornelius is being linked with a 5m move). Helenius seems to be a quality footballer and makes lots of his goals, so imagine what he'd be like with service from out wide. He's tall but seems very mobile and relatively quick. Makienok is a slightly taller than Helenius standing at 6'7" and is a bit slower but holds the ball up extremely well (it seems) and a power-house in the air. I'd love to get Koo Ja-Chul on loan from Wolfsburg - they have loaned him out before and he is a top player.

Might as well suggest Luis Gil at this point. He's a playmaking attacking midfielder in the vein of Juan Mata. Good close control and passing with both feet. He can also score the occasional goal. He's played at every youth level for the US and right now he's in Turkey playing in the U-20 World Cup. About the only bright spot for the US. He was offered an Arsenal contract at 16 but went the MLS route. Realistically, he's not good enough right now for us and when he is good enough, he'll be too expensive. But, I had to suggest him.

Defenders Thomas Rogne, Centre back playing for Celtic (out of contract this summer, hasn’t been able to agree a new deal with Celtic!), 22 years old, 2 caps for Norway. Good in the air (1.92m) and with his feet. Going to play for Norway U21 in the championship coming up now..against England/Italy/Israel. QUOTE] Rogne signing on a free for Wigan on Monday

Demidov's got a lot of potential and is fairly versatile too. Wouldn't mind him at Palace although he's probably not Premiership standard

Time for another young American, Jack McInerney. 20-year old striker for the Philadelphia Union who was the leading scorer in the MLS before joining up with the US Gold Cup squad. Has played for all the youth teams for the US and graduated from the US soccer academy in Florida as the high school player of the year. Little bit like Kevin Phillips with his poise on the ball and ability to pop up in the box with a goal. As you can see from the video below, he's got a bit of a-hole in him. So maybe a better comparison is Robbie Fowler, but if he's scoring for us, I could live with it. His true value would be less than a million, but MLS traditionally overprices their players, especially American ones. But maybe he could be brought in for a trial/loan after the MLS season. Klinsmann loves his MLS guys to go to Europe to train in the off-season.
