Tory Party's Plans for Retire Health Care

So let me get this straight. The Tory party are suggesting that your care should be self funded until you are left with just £100k of assets but, it's all ok because you won't be charged until you die.

This is nothing but a tax with the highest rate charged to the poorest and the lowest paid by the wealthy.

Your £200k flat? We'll have half of that.

Genuinely disgusted of Dorset.

It's worse than that actually. A person's estate from a town in the north with a house worth £102500 will only pay £2500 towards their own personal care. A person's estate in London with a house worth £350000 will pay £250000 towards their care.

This is a really bad idea and obviously ill thought through. All this and Tories are supposed to be better at managing our economy. Take your fingers out of your ears people and wake up to May's damaging ideas.

Social and health care needs either huge tax increases or something along these lines.

Unpalatable but we keep talking about the issues we face with an aging population living much longer than the model ever envisaged. Need to do more than talk however.

Care home fees for those that have to pay them are higher than they would otherwise be in order to subsidise those who do not pay fees themselves.

Like school trips but £1000s of times more expensive for those having to pay .

Death tax. This has had such a bad reaction from the public that I await the first manifesto U-turn in history prior to an election.

It's amazing how the perspective is that finances are in safer hands with The Tories in charge. Osborne borrowed more than previous Governments have in the history of Parliament and yet it's Labour that can't be trusted with the economy

Ere it already exists. It's currently set at around 23000. Except your house is sold from under you. It doesn't current include domicilkary care only residential. So the new changes would increase the amount but add in home care and money borrowed on the house until death.

It's already there people.

Of course you are right, but what May has done is to also remove the cap from your personal contribution, so this means there is huge inequality across the nation as to what a person's estate will have to pay, and I mean hundreds of thousands of pounds in difference. It is simply a rotten idea that will create a massive backlash. Not good politics.

Yes this is correct. The change is that the amount has gone up to £100K ish and your house is not sold from under you. However, home care is now included in the £100K where it wasn't before.

What I am unclear on is the definition of home care, what the home care is for, who has to pay it and from what age. What I imagined was care at home in lieu of residential care for largely quite elderly people. But, what about, say, a 40 year old wheelchair bound person living alone who cannot manage everyday tasks alone and therefore needs home visits. Is this included? What else is/is not included???

If you are not dead, and carry on needing social care currently, the NHS visits are free at the point of delivery. May has now made another change to this, and she is going to take retrospectively all the value of the estate up to £100000, after you die to pay for this now. How soon is she going to apply this to everyday NHS treatment for everyone? You can easily see that once the principle has been set, it can expand more easily into other areas. Would you ever trust May not to do this?

It is a brand new death tax that adversely affects a person's family lot after the death of a loved one, and should be seen for what it is, while she is still cutting CT for already rich companies.

The budget deficit was over £150bn in 2009-10 - at over 10% of GDP - the worst in the G20. It is now £52bn. Osborne did not borrow enough, not too much. Where else would Labour have cut in addition?

I don't like this policy. The £100k bit is too low and will generate another stream of clients for tax advisers.

If you're dead, you don't need anything. So why not take everything you owned away from you including all possessions, money, clothes, furniture etc etc. Even in N.Korea they don't do that.
