Grand National and Everton away weekend trip £125
I had noticed on another thread that the Everton away match on April 9 clashes with the Grand National.
So having checked the Everton website, they now show our match as being on Sunday 10th April. So here is an opportunity to go to both the Grand National and the match Everton v Palace. I have not worked out anything yet but I am sure we could get a coach up Sat morning to the Grand National (early start), stay overnight somewhere near Scouse land, then go to the match Sunday and travel back after the match. Anyone interested then I will make some enquiries as to price etc. I know it is about £28 to get into the G.N. (reasonable ticket). Please post here and let me know if interested. ![]() Last edited by SHIPEAGLE : 02-03-2005 at 06:43 PM. |

Might be a problem there, I believe the Adelphi may already be full for the Saturday night, after all it is Grand National Weekend and also of course the mighty Palace are in town, but im sure its due to the horse racing at Aintree.
I will search around for a good hotel /B&B in the area. |

I've had my grand national hotel booked since April, most you have to book a year in advance!
So thats super-dooper for me!

My initial looking into this trip has hit a bit of a problem with finding a hotel but there are some available which can take a large number ie if we fill a coach we will be looking for 25 rooms (mainly I assume twins) so this is a problem but there are possibilities. (The Adelphi is apparantly full). But at this stage I would need to have the rooms on hold until Sky announce the second half of season TV matches because if they move our match at Everton from the Sunday in order to show it on the Monday, we would be knackered with accomodation booked for the Saturday night only.
With accomodation possibly being a problem in the Liverpool area, it may be necessary to look further afield and therefore as we wont be able to confirm anything until about December, it might be necessary to consider Blackpool for the Saturday night (and Sunday, if the match moves to Monday). This would give far greater flexibility for finding appropriate accomodation and is only about 1 hour from Liverpool. Aintree are sending me an information pack which should be with me early in August. As more information is available I will post it here, but if you are interested in this trip let me know so that I can gauge the level of interest. |

It would mean getting public transport into Aintree though, the traffic around the course is horrific. Our hotel is within walking distance of the course. I guarantee it will take you a lot longer than an hour from Blackpool on the Saturday morning to get to Aintree!

I am sure you will be able to get hotels this far in advance. I went to the National about 4 years ago and booked the hotel (the one in the docks - forgotten the name but part of the Holday Inn group) about 2 weeks before.
The only problem might be it usually FACup semi-final weekend. |

SaxonEagle, Thanks for your advice, anyway on the Saturday morning we will be arriving at Aintree from London having left nice and early possibly 5 / 6am to get there by 12am but would also be guided by the coach company on this matter. As I said more info as obtained.
Agree leaving Aintree may take more than an hour to get to Blackpool, but I was meaning that "normally" its only about an hour away. |

I stayed in the Dolby Inn before the 0-5 game in Smiths season. It was in the docks and only 16 pounds from memory. Bunkbeds alas but a very nice restaurant from memory. Well recommended. |

Having looked further into this weekend out at the Grand National and the Everton away fixture, it would appear that it could be done for a cost of around £120 per person which includes all coach travel, accomodation for one night in Blackpool on B & B basis, entry to the Grand National and ticket for the Everton match.
The only stumbling block is whether Sky eventually decide to show the Everton match on TV on the Monday night, but I am sure we could add an extra night in Blackpool if necessary. |

Can confirm Everton Website shows our match as Sunday, but as said it could get changed for Sky TV.
Not having Sky myself I don't know when 2nd half of season TV matches are announced or whether they can still add to that list, if there is vital game later on (ie a relegation battle at Goodison). Can anyone advise please? |

Misery - sorry - Merseyrail station directly opposite the main entrance to Aintree. "Northern Line" train from Liverpool Central via Sandhills destination Kirkby. It's quite common for hotels, b&bs, etc., to be booked up for a distance of 25 miles from Liverpool for big events such as the Grand National. You don't have to go to Blackpool - Preston has got a fairly good night life. Alternatively consider Chester. HTH |
