ITV sport to charge !

For those wanting to watch the Palace on ITV sport next season, there is a charge of 6.99 per month. The channel will host Champions league, nationwde and worthington matches. For an additional 3 quid a month you can get the premiership pay per view games too.

Nice.

A Sky sports/ITV sport package for a year will now cost more than 200 quid a year. Same price as a season ticket !

Grumble. Yet another nail in the coffin of football as we know it. But people will still pay for it won't they.

Is there any sign of ITV Sport being on Satellite/Cable yet? Or are those of us in an area where we can't get ONdigital B*ll*xed again?

If you order before the launch of the channel you get both itv channels for 6.99 a month for the first three monthswhich included the pay per view games.
I was going to get rid of the sky sports as I am not that interested in the Premier league but they cover the golf and cricket as well.

ITV Sport is only available on Ondigital which by then will have relaunched as ITV digital. There are presently no plans to put ITV Sport on Sky or cable but anti-competition laws will dictate that it has to be made available to Sky eventually in the same way that Sky Sports channels are now on OnDigital. Basically the pacakge to which paf refers is for an Ondigital customer to include ITVSport in addition to the 3 Sky Sports Channels

I will have to forgoe the two or three Palace games on Telly then, Im afraid.

OnDigital (a.k.a. ITV Digital) is a pile of old w4nk, and I wouldnt forgoe Sky in favour of it (even if I could - no reception here)

The sooner that the regulators pull their fingers from out of their arses and get ITV onto Sky the better, although its a ****ty channel and I hardly ever watch anything on it (they aint on the EPG so they missout on a lot of chance viewing from me)

I agree with you on the first two points about ITV digital, Jaffa but I not sure about the last bit. I'm a Sky Digital user but I'm not sure about it being fair for Sky to have the ITV sports channel when it is already a better system than ITV Digital's package by a country mile. I would like to see it happen for selfish reasons but it doesn't sound good in the interest of competition.

Because I have seen it at my nans house. The picture quality is nothing compared to Sky Digital. Indeed the extra bandwidth ondigital uses means that it is actually a technically poorer picture than analogue.

Sky allow access to Sky Sports and Sky One etc to OnDigital and were made to do so to allow fair playing field for their competitors. Yet Sky arent given the same treatment in return. Regardless of whether Sky already beats OnDigital, they should be allowed fair treatment.

Incidentally, I understand ITV may be on Sky from December, in which case this argument becomes null and ITVDigital becomes a pure waste of time.

I dont recall Sky switching any events to Sky Sports Extra, except for where it is has been phsyically impossible for them to show them on other channels.

I find the picture quality Ok but there are too frequent breaks in the transmission, Sky does have a better package for sure.
ITV's 'refusal' to give access to their programming has been resolved as regards ITV2 is concerned but by the same token why is Sky Sports.com amoungst others not on Ondigital?
I'm not sure I can entirely agree with you assesment that Ondigital will become null and void as it is the Governments favoured provider and is the service available straight into the new TV's sets once analogue is shut down.
Sky will continue to have to use dishes and will not have the support of Government. Not necessarily the be all and end all but important none the less.

I do get a reception and I compared what was on offer on both formats and Sky Digital Wins - no contest. The amount of channels ITV-digital were offering was not much more than what my old analogue cable service and as I like to watch a variety of things in TV and not just sport I did not think I was gaining anything by switching to them.

Jaffa your quite correct, I mean the world tiddlywinks championships from Basingstoke and the world under 16 sumo games from indonesia certainly couldn't be moved. Best to put three live UEFA cup games on Sky Sports extra and even Skysports.com TV.

We'll they've tucked away the Copa America on there.

I can't see what the competition would be on SS 1,2 or 3 at 3am in the morning.

Thanks for this thread chaps - I'd been planning to switch from Sky Digital and hadn't given much thought to the possibility I might be wasting a whole load of time and money. Should've realised that this is the place to research this sorta thing!
