TRANSFER WINDOW IS SHUT till January. We can only get players in an emergency - i.e. a Keeper if we have no fit keepers. We are not going to be able to get a winger due to lack of width on an emergency basis.

We did sign Lakis last season after the transfer deadline so I think non contract players are ok to sign-if ultimately shite.

You can sign non-contract players any time. In theory, this means any deal can actually be completed whether a player is out of contract or not. Andrews is a good example; we could loan him to Bristol City, but we could also terminate his contract thereby allowing him to join them on a permanent basis. Theoretically if, say, we wanted Michael Brown and Spurs agreed he was surplus to their requirements and they were happy for him to join us, they could terminate his contract and he could join us immediately. As for whether any incentives passed under the table by way of a "transfer fee," who would ever know?
As someone pointed out, this time last year we picked up Lakis. What usually happens is that you have the deadline (just passed) and then clubs assess their squads. By early next week, a fair number of players who weren't sold and are no longer required are suddenly on the market as free agents, as well as those who are there already but weren't picked up because transfer targets took precedence. Dowie (x2) will have a list of these available players and it may even turn out that we didn't spend any money in the window because we were happy with one of the free agents we knew we could pick up next week. Or not, maybe they just felt we were good enough as we are. Either way, the opportunity to add players has not simply disappeared. |

Am sure you have to cancel their contract PRIOR to the window closing. So, ain't going to be any transfers until January.
At which point a approach to Spurs for Michael Brown would be a wonderful idea.

i didnt realise that brown was a winger and would solve our width problems.

No - basically same as the Premiership for permenant signings, although nobody seems totally sure about the fine print on loans. |
