I have misgivings about this which I know will make me unpopular on here (so what?).

Anyone who suffers as a result of fighting for their country, or support for the families of those who dies while fighting for their country, should not have to rely upon charitabl donations. They should, especially now that the immense cost of both World Wars have worked their way through the system, be fully supported by the government. I do not buy a poppy for this reason.

I know that many people will say "The government will not support these people", and my response is that as long as they can rely on the generosity and guilt of the public they never will.

I agree totally. The majority of these old soldiers were forced into the army by the government. The way this country treats it's old, especially its war heroes, is nothing short of disgusting.
