madrid close in on keane

Roy Keane could be set to end speculation over his future by signing for Real Madrid.

Reports emanating from Spain claim Keane is close to signing a short-term deal at El Santiago Bernabeu and that he has even undergone a medical at the Spanish giants.

The Irishman has been weighing up his options after sensationally quitting Manchester United last month.

A host of clubs have been chasing the former Republic of Ireland international with Keane proving an attractive proposition because of his free transfer status.

Keane was thought to be holding out for a move to boyhood heroes Celtic, but it appears they are struggling to finance a deal for the midfielder.

Everton, Bolton, West Ham, Portsmouth and Middlesbrough have all expressed an interest in him, but it appears Real are to win the race for his signature.

President Florentino Perez is believed to be a big fan of Keane and is ready to offer him a six-month deal until the end of the season with his position being reviewed at the end of the campaign.

Should Keane join Real he will link up again with former United team-mate David Beckham and his arrival would provide a massive lift for Real in the second half of the season as they battle for honours in the UEFA Champions League and La Liga.

Says it all about this money grabbing little shit. With all the money he's made out of the game, he can't even take a pay drop to join his "Boyhood heroes" for a last few years in the sun.

Yeah it sums it up really he was on 50k a week? or at least massive wages and he still wants more... mad.

Plus surely hes going to make money out of a move to management in the future?

Nope, he goes to watch them all the time, he knew that already. He's only motivated by money, end of.

And as for Absolutions point about management, how long do you think he'll be into his first management posistion before he starts bleating about a lack of funds, but will he take a pay cut? Will he bollox.

I think Keane was on 90k a week at Man U so I wouldn't imagine he's going to run out of money anytime soon. If I was in his position I'd play for Palace for nothing.

That's an aside really. How many of the Palace fans on the BBS would turn down a move to their favourite club even if it was a "shit league"? (assuming they were also a long way over the hill a la Keane)

They've just appointed the manager of the reserves to look after the first team for the rest of the season. Keane's already looking up the Spanish for "you haven't got a fokkin' clue about football you cont" as we write.

What the hell is people's problem with guys wanting to earn their maximum potential?

Sure he's made for life and has more money per week than some people see in 20 years but that's not the point. The point is he's worth what somebody will pay for him and he owes it to himself and his family to maximise that pay off. If for some bizarre reason you always loved Woolworths but then Boots asked you to work for them for 3 times the wages you'd be an idiot to turn it down.

Because he has publically stated many times that he wants to finish his career at Celtic.

Er, yes it is actually. How can it not be the point? How can you say that ANY footballer deserves 90k a week? Reality check time.

Because if the footballer wasn't getting it then some shareholders would be. Football is a multi-billion pound industry and if market value dictates he's worth 90k a week then by jove that's what he deserves.

The fans act like victims in all this "money's ruining football" malarky but at heart the fans have to take their fair share of blame instead of just blaming the player for looking out for his own interests.

It's a good job we have people educated in business studies here to put us mere "fans" in our place. I mean, of course you're right. He's already a millionaire, but by not accepting the paltry £20k a week on offer from Celtic, he's definitely looking after his best interests.

Where's the sense of perspective? Of the bigger picture? Billions of people without food or clean water, and you say "well if the market says he's worth that then he is"? Everyone has the right to earn a good living, but this kind of attitude really stinks.

It's not just the money ruining football. It's the corporate greed, the people hoarding it and making sure the rich get richer that ruin it.
