Dowie on the transfer trail Jan 13 2006 PALACE still hope to dip into the January transfer market and are currently monitoring Southend United winger Luke Guttridge, FC Thun defender José Gonçalves and West Brom striker Robert Earnshaw. "We are working on a few fronts and will hopefully bring in one or two," said manager Iain Dowie, who is looking at both loan and permanent signings. Palace face competition from Premiership Everton for Gonçalves, while Guttridge is attracting interest from a string of Championship clubs. "Southend's priority has become promotion and from their chairman's point of view, it would be a very good offer before they let someone like Luke go," said Richard Cody, Guttridge's agent. "Ron Martin, the Southend chairman, is a shrewd man and I can't see him letting Luke go unless it is the right deal for him." Earnshaw is another target, with Palace director of football Bob Dowie travelling to the Baggies' FA Cup tie with Reading last Saturday. But Dowie's trip was a wasted one, as the Wales forward did not even make the matchday squad. Former Palace favourite Matt Jansen was released by Blackburn Rovers on Wednesday. Bolton, Everton and Preston are interested, while Palace could still come in to the chase for his signature. Why are we watching Earnshaw?????? |

I don't think Dowie has said anything about any 3 of those players.
How do we know Bob Dowie was watching Earnshaw? Don't WBA have some midfielders we might be interested in? Or a left back? |

Earnshaw - no they've got that wrong - we wouldn't be that silly would we.
Also Bolton have signed Jansen |

Why are Palace always "working on a few fronts" during the transfer window, and not before it?

Earnshaw is a very good player, but the only way this would happen is if AJ was going, which he is not(hopefully) |

But sensible to have things in the pipeline incase a big offer came in. 31st Jan - Someone offers £9m for AJ and we have no replacement even thought of = panic buy. Glad we are looking at Ernshaw. |

I think that they've quoted him from his press conference before Christmas. He definately said that in his news conference a while ago, as in, before the window opened. |

Or Reding even? As for the article, Dowie mentions no names.

I'm sure you're right Rob but my question still stands. Here we are mid-January and nothing has happened. If we are intending to sign someone but nothing happens before the end of the month, that's 6 bloody games we've missed the opportunity to play them in and bed them in for a final push. Frankly, with the season finishing at the end of April, I hardly see the point of signing anyone at the last minute in the window.

Its not like the names mentioned in teh article have been all over the press and there are threads in this forum about all of them is it! Oh and Cahill was never going to sign for us - it was a deal between Paalce and Millwall to up Evertons offer! |

Dowie has not mentioned anyone by name. The targets in this article have come from another source. Either that or they are a deliberate smokescreen. |

It was my imediate thought when i saw the article but i hope not, we really need a good young left back. Gary should get another chance but he needs time out of the firing line. |
