Madeski on his bike

Excellent timing on the part of the Reading chairman.

Interviewed on Talkcrap earlier, he said he's "looking for an exit strategy". He added that it had always been his aim to get Reading to the top level but having achieved that, he wants out.

He said he has put £14million of his own money into the club and that he wasn't prepared to shell out the sort of money on wages that will be demanded in the Premiership (which he called "ludicrous"). I agree with him by the way.

Asked if he would nevertheless sanction the purchase of players in an attempt to get Reading established he answered "it is my belief that if you're good enough to get there, you should be good enough to stay there".

I wouldn't be holding my breath waiting for big name signings if I were a Reading fan - I think they may well be doing a Sunderland this time next year. Difference being, of course, that they'll probably be doing it in front of 8,000 fans.

He said the same a couple of months back, I think it was on a football focus interview.

So, why is he in there in the first place ? Advertising ? Something to talk about at dreary dinners ? Because he can ? What's the point ? I fail to understand these chairmen who have a sort of on off affair with football. They (the chairmen ) are taking the p*** out of the fans and pretend to be interested for a while. They would remind you of a latter day master of the shire. He should just go foxhunting and be done with it/them (Ding).

Re John Madjeski

Before the Cilla-shagger took over, they played at Elm Park (twinned with the worst bit of Dacca) & were shit. Now they are good & play in a marvellous stadium which has a 4 star hotel, good transport connections & act as a role model to other clubs.

The Cilla-shagger has put more into Reading than he's taken out.

How very strange. I heard him speak live late yesterday morning - and now you're telling me he's denied it in the Grauniad (presumably before he actually said it).

Either JohnA meant that the Madjeski denied what he had said two months earlier or that SJ had denied what he had said.

Either that or it's a rip in the fabric of the space time continuum.

How on earth does that logic work? Good enough to get there = good enough to stay there?

Yes, because a team that beats Crewe has just as much chance of beating Chelsea.

Good post.
This bloke may be unlikeable, but he's done a lot for the town of Reading.
