Transfer policy
Why do we have to carry out all our transfer dealings in public? Having made everyone aware that a) we want Beattie; b) we have offered £2.2m for him; and then c) we have apparently increased the offer to £3m now, this will in turn alert other clubs that he is available, and also reveal the sort of money that we are prepared to spend on players. This could put us at a disadvantage in future dealings.
I realise that with the press as it is there will always be speculation about transfers, but most of the talk about this particular one has come from either Alan Smith or Simon Jordan. I reckon the club should say nothing until a deal is done. Anyone agree/disagree? |

Spot on John, at the risk of getting a load more abuse for slagging off the chairman, I think he's far too vain and loves being in the spotlight too much !!! A trait that was the downfall of a certain former Chariman.

I see your point but to be fair to them, the whoel Beattie thing is a bit of PR. Things arent going all that well and a few people are getting worried, what better way than to try and calm them by showing us all that they can see what sort of player we need and being seen to do something about getting him.
All the other signings were completed very quickly and quietly. If it had been broadcast about that we were after Black, Pollock etc for relatively low prices, there would have been a mass auction. |

Totally agree Paf - I've thought that too. Apparently whilst he was joining us at West Brom in the crowd - someone shouted at him "what the f**k do you want" which phased him a bit ! |

Perhaps we shouldhave a bit more faith in how Jordan approaches media tittle-tattle & speculation. Remember how he acquired the club..... noo-one saw that coming !

It was more like "What the f**k are you doing up here?" ... it wasn't really that aggressive, but Jordy didn't know what to make of it - bloody funny, I thought at the time |

I think that some peoples attitude really stinks about Jordan.
I haven't been bumlicking or anything but at least I have the brains to realise that without him we'd be playing our first fixture against Farnborough Town or some team like that - we'd be gonners. Not only are we safe but he has abitious plans for Palace, we've already bought more players than most teams do. OK, so your pint was a bit late and flat - so bloody what whinger? Some people are either totally dense or just incredibly sad. If I was him i'd say "F*ck you all!" and lay on a beach somewhere surrounded by lovely women and enjoying myself, counting my money. Meanwhile you'd be wondering why that "Knight in shining armour" hasn't come to save the club as Aldershot Town run out to play our new team of non-leaguers infront of a hard core 3000. Why he's signed up to the Croydon whiners society (that's you, you miserable tw@ts) with the lifestyle he could be leading amazes me. |

You indeed sound very much like you. The senseless moron that uttered those words made an attempt to be either clever or witty and failed miserably on both counts. Mr Jordan is a Palace supporter who saved our club from extinction and does not need treatment like that.Utterly disgraceful and dispicable.Let us hope that that so called supporter in the crowd is filled with remorse. |

One of those rare occasions Trolley when I agree with you.
We should have the culprit strung up on a wall and shot. |

Maybe Jordan should have asked the person who shouted at him the same thing?? After all SJ is a Palace fan so why shouldn't he be there???
On the subject of doing our transfers in public - which other of our transfers have been done in public so far this season?? The Beattie saga has been different to the others - but I guess that tends to happen when things are more protracted. Where did the original comments come from - could it have been Southampton?? I don't know - but if we didn't know - we'd all be whingeing saying why aren't we buying a centre forward! Smith and Jordan seem to be in a no-win situation at times - when we should really all be getting behind them during this 'building' period. The one criticism I would make - is if Smith did say we wouldn't offer anymore and then we have - then it doesn't send out a very good message for any other transfer dealings. |

If i remember the first mention of the Beattie bid came on the Palace Programme.
A guy rang up and asked about buying a centre forward and Jordan just told him that Palace had put in a bid of £2 million for James Beattie so he hardly told the world about it did he. The Palace Programme is only shown in the local area so i guess the story has expanded by that but Jordan never told the National media about it did he? |

especially when Smithy says £2.2 million is the final offer, and then offers £3 million. Nice one, matey - you really do drive a hard bargain.

Again, the chairman is being shot down in flames for doing something wrong. But has he done anything wrong, no.
Ok the Beattie transfer has been talked about a lot but i haven't seen any mention of it in the Newspapers but he hasn't gone out and said exactly how much he has to spend has he. He could have stopped when he bidded £2.3 million for Beattie which was rejected and he has stood by his word that if Smith wanted a player and it was a viable deal for the club he would fund it, what's wrong with that, and to say he's vain and loves being in the spotlight, well, show me where he is this and how many times he has spoken on TV about i've got this and i've got that? Plus, for the person who shouted out to him at West Brom 'What the f**k do you want' should grow up and realise he paid the money to save this football club and if it wasn't for him we wouldn't of been going to West Brom anyway. Start backing our chairman and don't keep criticising just beacuse the fact Coppell's gone. |

Maybe, it's all a cunning plan and we are really putting a bid together for someone decent.

Steve Coppell was nothing to do with my original comment, Eagle. Nor am I not backing the chairman - I hope he is as successful with Palace as he says he will be. That doesn't mean, however, that we have to conduct transfers in the public domain! The point about Tommy Black was well made - I'm not suggesting every transfer is done in the same way as the Beattie one, just that we should sign the player then talk about him, and not the other way round. We've recently seen clubs fined/warned for unsettling players with transfer talk, and personally I'd rather we weren't one of them! Talking before acting can end in egg on face, and I think we've had enough of that at Palace don't you? |
