Networking

Wonder if anyone can help:

My network card on my main PC for some reason is not working, it usually does. I have recently re-installed XP on it, but I need to get on the net with the pc in order to register the product key.

I have a network hub that both the OC and my wireless connection (that I use for the laptopm im currently on to type this!). Even when I plug the PC into the hub i cannot gain access and neither do the lights flash at the back of the PC (where the network card is). I notice when I click on Local Networks, it says there is no IP/TCP connections so I cannot even click on the 'repair' option.

Any ideas guys? Thanks.

How weird is this, the exact same thing happened to me today!

I'm using an old USB device now instead, but I've no idea what's wrong with the card.

I have not installed any drivers for the network card mate as its part of the motherboard, it was not a separate purchase, does this make a difference or should there still be a driver for it nonetheless?

Worth checking for any drivers missing:

Right click my computer
Go to hardware tab
Click Device Manager
Check there is no question marks next to any of your hardware

Indeed I do.

I have the CD for the network card so tried reinstalling it, but it wouldn't let me install the drivers?

It all seems very odd to me.

Hi mate. I have installed the Main motherboard CD which has now shown a network device in the task bar, but when I click 'enable' on it, it comes up 'a network cable is unplugged' - any ideas?

Thats what I would have thought, but if that was the case I don't see how my laptop connects through the wireless connection that in turn is plugged into the hub including the ASDL line in turn?

Have you tried plugging the PC directly into the ADSL modem? If that doesn't work your network card might be dead.

Hi, yup I have indeed done that but the network card does not even seem to register..I have re-installed drivers for it (its a built in one with the motherboard) and it just comes up 'network lead is unplugged' even when its clearly not! (I dont see any flashing lights on the back?)

if that works then i would guess that either the driver you installed is not correct OR the network card on the motherboard has either become disable OR faulty
