Palace Glory Hunters
Are there any Palace fans out there who were NOT born in the vicinity of Palace/South London or have family or local links to Palace.
I:e I would be interested to know if there was anybody born, say somewhere like Manchester who started supporting Palace when they were touted as the “Team of the Eighties” and stuck with them. Obviously you get Man Utd fans or Liverpool fans who have never even been to Manchester or Liverpool. Is there an equivalent bunch of Palace fans who have never been to London? Anyway . Just a thought.

Your thought process is askew! Palace are not "in" London. they are in the hinterland, the zombie land. I am the only exception to the rule. The rule is palace becomes you. i went to see the manure of 1969 of best and charlton etc and came away a palace fan. sick hey???? I love my team but have no idea why! I have brayed and brawled for 38 yrs without any consequence whatsoever and frankly don't give a hoot if mancunians, evertonians or croydonians treat us with derision i am what i am what i want to be and i'm happy to live till i die

I never had any connection other than moving to the area.
Charlton were at SP then and a division higher so I don't get the glory hunting bit.

Well, to be fair it was great football to watch. The kind that brings people back week after week.

I was not born in the area - in fact I was born 6,000 miles away or so..
I did not have any connection to the area when I first went to see them in 1976. But I got hooked the first time I went and have been going ever since.. Hardly a glory hunter though! |

As we are constantly a premiership top five club year in year out, more times FA cup winners than most, playing in the Champions league every season, I can see why you would think some of us are glory hunters
Joking apart, it was for the complete oposite reason that I became Palace. I lived in Hayes (bromley) & started supporting the Glaziers because, no one else did, apart from my mate Scottie, who luckily injected me with the claret & blue blood before he moved to Aussie land in 1969. To this day, I remain the only Palace in my entire family, most of whom just don't understand why. There loss, not mine!

I was born in Crawlwy and moved to Redhill when I was 12. It was either Palace or Brighton. Answers itself really.

'Glory Hunting' and 'Palace' doesn't really go together either. Supporting this club is more like an affliction than attention seeking.

…………but you`re still local and have a connection to the area.
My point was if there are any fans who`ve never been to London and support Palace just for the “cool” factor which went with being dubbed “ The team of the Eighties”

If there are, they need their heads testing.

Another good example is I used to know someone who supported Shrewsbury, even though he had no connection with them, had never been to the town.

My Spurs supporting brother always chides me for swapping teams. I was not really into football until I was about 12 and then I supported Liverpool. I swapped to Palace in 1981. His argument breaks down since normally the next stage is Glory Hunter accusation. My Mum was born near to Hibury and is an Arsenal fan - if only I had supported them !

I have no connections at all with South London. I joined because... find one of my other posts. However, I doubt it makes me a glory hound.

I used to live in Grove Park when I was around 6-7. I used to love my trips to Crystal Palace Park to see the dinosaurs then. That's my earliest memory of thinking to myself, yeah, I'll support Palace. It's a nice place. That park has dinosaurs (even though it has nothing to do with CPFC) but hey I was a kid. None of the kids in my class nor area supported Palace. It was closer to Millwall and Charlton than Palace. Didn't take in my first game till I was 9 and I moved to Sydenham, though. We were shit. Heading for relegation in 1980-1. Does this make me a glory hunter ?

I personally think that it is glorious and an honour to support Palace.

JJ made me go to a game in the late 80's, I am originally from Sussex and had no connection whatsoever with Palace or the locality. I met JJ outside The Brighton Centre, in a queue for a concert.

i got a cab from liverpool lime street to goodison park in 90/91 with 2 other palace fans
born and bred in sheffield, both of them, completely yorkshire. said they'd supported palace since late 70s - they were about 24ish at the time, as was i said they supported palace partly cos they liked the sash kit play football now with a palace fan who lives in st albans, and although he was born in mayday, has spent most of his life somewhere near hull. again, very very northern man. it would seem palace are indeed a world brand
