War Movies

Watched “Bridge at Remagen” a couple of days ago which got me thinking about which were the 10 most powerful/entertaining War movies ever made. (Sorry if this thread has been done before)

Mine are in no particular order

Canal (Early Roman Polanski Film)
Great Escape
Saving Private Ryan (Who can forget that opening D-Day sequence)
Glory
Patton
Platoon
Downfall
Das Boot
Medittaraneo (Italian Film, fantastic Anti-War sentiments)
Land and Freedom

Is this just WWII?

If not, The Killing Fields ranks up there for me.

Apart from the films you have mentioned, these are my pick of war films. I'm really interested about anything from the genre, WWII in particular.

Brotherhood, A Korean made film about the Korean war is brilliant, IMO.

A Bridge Too Far, Life Is Beautiful, Black Hawk Down, Apocolypse Now, Enemy At The Gates, Band of Brothers (not a film, I know, but staggeringly brilliant nevertheless) and The Pianist.

when the premier was shown they inviting quite a few war veterans who were in the d-day landings, and after the first 10 mins of the film all of them had walked out crying because it was so realistic and brought back too many memories!

Mixed feelings on this. Thought the film was turd, but the Year Zero idea was cool in a really f*cked up way.

I'd rather stick pins in my eyes than watch it again though.

Echo what someone said about Band of Brothers. Is my favourite piece of television. Stunning.

Downfall is brilliant as well.
