What made it even funnier was that sitting next to me were two forest fans in the blades end who left when that happened. Just checks was 91/92season

All time England XI

Shilton

Walker Terry Moore Sansom

Beckham Styles Gasgoine Barnes

Shearer Lineker

Difficult to leave out Scholes or Lampard. Arriving late in the box is useful but Gasgoine's creativity trumps this. Also difficult to leave out the likes of Charlton or Greaves. Rooney was more straight forward as a lot of his goals were in easier qualifiers. Owen is also easy Lineker was the better player. Shilton is a better keeper than Banks. 125 caps whilst competing with Ray Clemence says it all.

Competition for the midfield chopper role. Styles wins this one as he was an evil little bastard, but could play. Only other contenders would be Reid or Robson. LFS was not up there nor was Butt.

Do you play Moore or Butcher?

Best England team? '66 cos they won something or '90 cos they were just good. '96 is up there cos that was in England and was a giggle. That and the Olympics was the two occasions I remember when the country downed tools and focussed on the tournament.

Banks was a better keeper than Shilton, the eye injury curtailed his career.
Bobby Charlton has to be in midfield above all four you named
Duncan Edwards in defence Terry dont make me laugh......
Stanley Matthews for Barnes
Personally I would have Colin Bell above Gazza
Right Back Jimmy Armfield

Missing but needs a mention Billy Wright , Martin Peters

I started with football in 1994.

Seaman

Neville
Cole
Adams
Campbell

Beckham
Scholes
Gerrard
Gascoigne

Shearer
Owen

The best two players there by a long way have to be Cole and Gascoigne. Cole was/is weirdly underrated - he was probably the last genuinely world class player we've had.

I can't see how Rooney would get near an all-time England team.

Greavsie has to be in an all-time team, he was a genius , so would Matthews, Finney Stan Mortenson and Nat Lofthouse

We could debate this for hours in an era where 4-42 was not the set up played it was more often than not a 3 at the back , you are right Edwards was more a midfielder. If you read up on him though it is very likely that as his career progressed he would of played the centre half role in a 4 4 2. Though others argue his attacking ability he would be a midfielder. Whatever I will take Edwards over Terry in my defence....
